Impact of changing" consumption

posting" key in movement type
This question is answered

Dear Experts ,

We have implemented forecast based planning in our system .

We have concluded that there are certain movement types , like 201/ 309 etc , in which we do not
want the system to update consumption , as we donot want to acknowledge the contribution to
consumption posted via these movement types forecast planning .

In movement type config OMJJ, we have an option to change the " consumption posting " key ,
where in we can deactivate the same .

This would definitely meet our requirements as far as the forecasting is concerned .

However we are not sure if changing this config would have impact on any other areas/ or reports .

Can you please suggest , where all this particular configuration is impacted .

Regards ,

Lakeer

Hi,

S031 and similar info tables will

be updated as per your movement
type configuration. I think this will
be a part of the requirement. If the
consumption update is not along
with the movement type
configuration, then only we need to
worry!

You may refer the note

mentioned in my previous
comment, since its one of the most
important and informative notes in
case of the consumption update
indicator change in movement
type.

AKPT

As these movement types are standard...

I strongly suggest, please don't change this for

these movement type....

As per your requirement, please create a new

movement type like 201 copy as Z01 and 309
copy as Z09...

Then do the settings for the customized

movement type...

And then check the same..

Thanks Dev for the response ,

But our business currently wants only 2

movement types to update consumption .

This means we have a whole lot of std

SAP movement types that need to be
changed wrt " consumption posting " .

https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3493955 2/18/2017
Impact of changing" consumption posting" key in movement type Page 5 of 12

It would be practically impossible for us to

create new movement types .

You have suggested to not to change std

SAP settings . I would like to know , what
areas & objects do you anticipate , that
would be affected due to this change .

Also creating a new mvt type would

practically function the same way as the
original movement type , if I change the
setting in the std movement type .
Hence , other than forecast , even Z
movement types would affect the same
objects as the std movement type . But I
need to know what all are that .

The impact is details explained by
@AKPT sir.
)

Also check the note which is

referred by him..

You will understand the all impact...

If you change the standard

movement type, them it will effect
for all types of transaction for these
movement type.

https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3493955 2/18/2017

Yes..the Z movement type will

practically function the same way
as the original movement type..

But the changes setting and

affective object will be only for this
Z movement type..

Like the consumption posting

indicator is stored in table T156.

If you change the consumption

posting settings for Z movement
type, then it will not take any effect
for standard movement type..

If the movement type 201 and 309

is used only for this purpose, then
you can change it..

But as we know we can use mvt

type 201 and 309 for various
purpose..

So for the other business

transaction it will wrong posting...

If you change the option for

movement type 201 and 309, then
you can only use these movement
for this purpose.. Not for others...

Hi,

If you change the consumption posting indicator, it will affect the

consumption posting (MVER / DVER tables).

https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3493955 2/18/2017
Impact of changing" consumption posting" key in movement type Page 7 of 12

Once you change the consumption indicator to blank (no consumption

update), the movement happend after the change wont update in
consumption history tables, and the same wont show in material master
consumption history.

But the previous quantities will be always there in the tables and the
previous consumption history includes these movement types also. In
order to update the consumption history, you may create the report
mentioned / attached in the note: 1832196 - General information on
consumption update MVER/DVER
(http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1832196) and run the report.
The report will automatically correct the consumption history based on the
current movement type configuration.

Thanks AKPT MM ,

The information would definately help me

once i change the consumption settings .

But my question is ... is it OK to change

the settings in std movement types ?

I ask this coz i think that this particular

setting ( other than consumption values in
MVER) would affect some other areas/
reports as well .

Do you have any idea if this setting

affects only consumption values in MVER
or not ?

Hi Lakeer,

From the discussion, it seems that

you want to avoid the postings from
201, 309 movement type. So,
instead of changing the standard
settings why don't you control it
through authorization object
'M_MSEG_BWE'. By changing the
consumption posting key in OMJJ
you are other way avoiding
postings from 201, 309.

Hi Shailesh ...

This is not abt restricting by

authorization . The
consumption value update is
entirely statistical & is used
as a basis to calculate
replenishment qty .

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

As of my knowledge, there is no
other impact if you are changing
the "consumption update" indicator
only in the standard movement
type. Standard SAP will allow the
change in movement type for
consumption update and wont
affect other postings or function of
movement type. The field is open
for change and you may change it
if required.

We have changed the movement

type 301 for the consumption
update for one of our client and the
only issue we faced after the
change was the history values. The
history values can be well updated
with the note mentioned above.
The other postings will happen as it
is.

I would suggest you to change

the settings and test the same in
Dev. Revert back if you are facing
any issue.

That was quite a reassuring

reply .

So far of what I have tested

is that other along with
MVER table , LIS table
S031 table also updates
Total & unplanned
consumption values . Hence
all the reports like MC.1 ,
MCBA etc might be
affected . But this i guess is
not an impact & the values
are only informative .

Will check further & update

accordingly

Thanks a lot AKPT /

SAP note 1832196 &

the insight provided by
you both has helped
me conclude as
under :

The changes in
"consumption posting
" for a movement type
is indeed
configurable , as SAP
has given the
provision to update
the field . One needs

to decide based on
business logic coupled

logic ( as per snote
