1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to establish, monitor and control all
activities of chiller installation Works.

2.0 INTRODUCTION

The procedure covers the installation & testing activities pertaining to HVAC
which are listed below for construction of "2nd Asian Beach Games 2010” .

- Chilled Water Unit


- Chilled Water Pipes & Fittings
- Under Ground Pipe Work
- Valves & Controls

5.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project consultant shall be responsible for coordination with Project engineer


and organization for the necessary resources & to ensure the works carried out
meeting the project quality requirement.

Project Engineer shall be responsible for planning & coordinating of day to day
work activities & notify the next day work plan to all concern including the
QA/QC Department.

QC Engineer / Inspector shall be responsible for overall coordination and


inspection of all HVAC activities. This includes but not limited to notifying the
Contractor and Coordination for all Inspection witness, prepare stage wise
inspection reports and get them signed by all concern personnel, filing and
indexing the same.

6.0 EQUIPMENT

Mechanical Tool Bag consisting of Measuring tape, Spirit level, Drill Machine &
Wire cutter, Disc cutter, Hex blade with mounting bracket etc.

7.0 PROCEDURE

Procedures of above listed method statements in scope are described as below

7.1 WATER COOLED CHILLERS

1. Mark Chiller location at site based on coordinated layout.

2. Check approved Chiller schedule & approved shop drawings for correct Model
of Chillers.

3. Provide support using either self-drilling anchors, or proper dia masonary drill
carryout the preparatory work in the slab to receive self-anchors or unifix.
Consider anchor manufacturers recommended dia/depth of hole. Fix the unifix&
taper locks to be placed securely in the location. Hang a threaded rod and use
a lock nut to lock it with the slab. Remove the sharp edge at the open end of GI
threaded rod and apply galvanized paint.

4. Provide slope towards condensate drain connection side.

5. Make sure that the Refrigerant used in Chiller & specified is same & factory
charged.

6. Check the chiller to be installed is with fully pre wired, electrical & water
connections.

7. Check the compressor with suction & discharge shut off valve & to be mounted
on vibration spring isolators & protected by factory supplied grills.

8. Check for crankcase heater to be provided to minimize oil dilution during


shutdown periods chillers shall be selected for 46 Deg C but it must be capable
of working up to 52 Deg C.

9. Ensure that the cooler shall match with specification & also shall be with two
independent refrigerant circuits with all accessories such as hot gas muffler,
high side pressure relief valve, liquid line shut off valve, filter drier, sight glass,
solenoid valve & automatic expansion valve.

10. Ensure for Chiller are with flow switches, control board, sound reduction kit,
microprocessor based controllers for loading & unloading & digital display
module with BMS capability for future.

11. Check for controls of chillers that are with starter to limit starting current, short
cycling protection, temperature controller, freze up protection, thermostat,
circuits’ breakers, contactors, relay & field power & control wiring terminal
boxes.

12. Ensure free access to filter & motor for future maintenance.

13. Ensure that unit’s terminal box (Control Panel) free access to maintenance.

7.2. CHILEED WATER PIPES & FITTINGS

1. Check the level & routing of chilled water pipes as per approved shop drawing

2. Ensure that all pipes are supported by means of approved clips or Hangers or
purpose made brackets as detailed.

3. Check the piping to all equipments & control valves is supported to prevent
strains or distortions in connected equipments & control valves.

4. All vertical drops to be supported to prevent sagging or swinging by proper pipe


hangers as specified in specification.

5. Ensure the all insulated pipes passing through the slabs or external walls to be
provided with UPVC or sleeves with whole thickness of wall.

6. Provide proper & sufficient space to allow accessibility for servicing.

7. Check that approved pipe fittings are shifted to site & bending of pipes has not
done.

8. Check any pipe surface is not damaged & used for installation.

9. Ensure the both ends of pipes are not open while erection to prevent dirt &
foreign matter.

10. All flanges & Unions are provided on straight runs at not longer than 12m
intervals.

11. Wherever possible all pipe work system to have Automatic Air vents.

12. Check for brackets & supports that are not obstructing the access to valves,
flanges, or other fittings.

13. All insulation to refrigerant & condensate pipe work shall be with approved
make & applied with suitable thickness as specified.

14. Check that all pipe insulation is in such a manner that there will be no air
circulation within the insulation or between the applied surfaces.

15. The identification labels to all pipe work indicating direction of flow & service is to
be done after installation.

16. All external pipe work is to be effectively weatherproofed & protected using glass
cloth & fosters sealants as specified.

17. Welding to pipe is to be carried out by competent person & welding cards shall
be submitted to consultant upon request for approvals.

7.3 UNDER GROUND PIPEWORK

1. Check the sizes & property of preinsulated pipes is as per approved drawing.

2. Ensure that all preinsulated pipes are shifted to site installation.

3. Ensure that all pipes installed, handled & stored strictly in accordance with
Code of practice BS 7272:1992.

4. All steel pipes are to be manufactured in accordance with BS EN253:1995 &


BS489:1999 standard

5. Check for the pipe insulation is as per specification or not.

6. Outer casing of pipe shall be of hard polyurethane HDPE.

7. Check the level & routing of pipe has to be as per approved shop drawing.

8. Welding to pipe is to be carried out by competent person & welding cards shall
be submitted to consultant upon request for approvals.

7.4 VALVES & CONTROLS

1. Check the sizes & quantities of all valves as per approved drawing has been
shifted to site.

2. Check the position & series of all control valves in pipes & equipments is as per
standard connection & positions.

3. Ensure that all low points of system are fitted with drain valves to permit the
complete drainage of the system.

4. Check at all high points of the system is fitted automatic air eliminator with lock
shield shut off valve & discharge connection from air vent shall be neatly run in
copper tube to discharge in a convenient position over the nearest gully or
approved location.

5. Check for chiller control that shall include starter to limit starting current, short
cycling protection, temperature controller, freze up protection, thermostat,
circuits’ breakers, contactors, relay & field power & control wiring terminal
blocks.

6. Ensure that all AHU’s & FCU’s are with 2 port modulating control valves, space
temperature control or thermostats & on off switches will be provided.

7. Check for the control panels of exhaust fans, pressurization units etc is shifted t
site.

8. Electrical power connections shall be done as per approved drawings.

9. Work Inspection Request (WIR) shall be raised for consultant’s inspection.

8.0 SAFETY

8.1 Effective supervision regarding safety shall be provided during HVAC activities.

8.2 Workers shall wear appropriate PPE while working on the slab & shall follow tall
the primary safety procedures.

8.3 Employees shall wear safety helmets, shoe, safety glass & over coat while
entering in to working premises.

8.4 Employees shall use movable scaffolding while working above 2.5 Meters with
proper safety belt.

8.5 Proper house keeping should be maintained.
