Pacific War Assignment Menu

All assignments will be due in one week. Extra credit will be due within two weeks.
Appetizer (From textbook and lectures): By yourselves, pick one of the four choices for an
appetizer. It will be worth 10 points.
1. Venn Diagram: After listening to lectures and reading the textbook, create a Venn Diagram.
In one circle should be the United States and the other side should be Japan. Compare and
contrast the two countries through their politics, economy, war involvement, and anything

else that could be useful. Using the textbook and my lectures for information.

2. Mind Map (Digital): Go to this website: http://www.popplet.com Follow the instructions to


sign up or log in if you already have an account. Once logged in, create a mind map! Pick a
main idea or a topic from lectures or the textbook. Whatever topic you pick, have it as your
center. Around the topic should be information that helps you understand the topic or clarify
it.
3. Question and Answer: After listening to lectures and reading the textbook, there still could be
some unanswered questions. Create your own question and answer worksheet. Questions can
vary from terms, people, places, to concepts you don’t understand. Write out the question and
try your best to find the answer through the textbook or my lectures. If you can’t find the
answer, then come talk to me so we can look at academic sources online for the answer.
4. Worksheet: If you choose to do this, you will be filling out the worksheet that I have
provided at the front of class. Pick up the worksheet and follow the instructions on there.

Entree (From lectures and online): By yourself or in your groups of 4, pick one of the four
choices for an entree. It will be worth 20 points.
1. Comic Strip: If you are more artistic you can create a comic strip. It has to be a full page and
should have at least 5 panels. You can choose either an air battle, a ship battle, or an island
invasion. You can draw whatever occurred in the battle or invasion. The comic should show
the beginning, the middle, and the end of a battle. It has to be accurate and educational.
Please refrain from drawing anything too graphic for school.
2. Model: You can make a model of an airplane or a ship during the battles of the Pacific. The
model has to be three dimensional so no drawings. You can use the materials provided in
class or if you wish, you can bring materials from your home. The model has to be accurate
and be modeled after a real ship or plane from the war.
3. Tv news report: This can be done with your group. You will pick a battle, air or sea, and do a
news report of it. It can either be a video or presentation you do in front of the class. You will
need to act as if you are from the 1940s and do a news report of the battle. Provide as much
information as possible on the battle. Information should include the time and date of the
battle, the location, casualties, who took part in it, and what was the result of it.
4. Teach a lesson (Digital): This can be done with your group. Your group will need to pick a
topic of the Pacific War and you will be the teacher for the day! You will need to create a
Powerpoint, Prezi, Google Slides, or Knovio. You are in charge of what will be on the
presentation. Whatever you think is important for the class to know, present it. Each person
will need to present to receive full credit.

Dessert [Extra Credit]: By yourself, you may include dessert in your menus for extra credit.
Complete one of the following for 10 points of extra credit.
1. Flashcards: Using this website: http://quizlet.com create flashcards! You can define terms,
places, people, or concepts. You should create a minimum of 10 flashcards, including photos.
2. Artwork: You can create an artwork, using any medium, to depict something of the Pacific
War. It could be a battle, air or sea, an island invasion, a meeting between countries, a
surrender, or victory. Please reframe from drawing anything too graphic.
3. Research: You can do additional research on a topic we didn’t touch upon! If something we
talked about interested you or you know of a topic that we didn’t talk about you can do extra
research on it. You can present it as an essay or presentation. If you choose to do an essay, it
should be about 4 to 5 pages long, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, with a
works cited page. If you choose to do a presentation, you can use a Powerpoint, Prezi,
Google Slides, or Knovio to create it. It should have 4 to 5 slides and contain the most useful
information.
4. Four corner Mini book: Using this website:
https://www.teach21.us/uploads/1/3/0/5/13053428/four_corner_minibook_template.pdf to
create a four corner mini book! Pick four topics or events that you think are the most
important of the Pacific War. Write them on the outside of the mini book. On the inside of
the mini book, include the most useful information that you can gather from lectures and the
textbook.
