My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that education should be an enriching and empowering experience for students.

To achieve this, I will strive towards providing my students with a warm and welcoming

environment where they can feel safe and just be themselves. I will be patient with my students

and teach them the value of respect, both for themselves and others, in order to create a loving

and caring learning environment free from judgement and prejudice. Not all students have the

luxury of a good home life, so I want to make sure that my classroom is a safe place for all of my

students.

As a future teacher, I believe it is important to develop not only good students, but also

good people. As a coach, character development is something that I highly value, and the same

mindset applies to the classroom. Students should develop a sense of passion for their learning,

but they should also develop a sense of compassion for others. I wish for my students to

demonstrate respect, kindness, compassion, and empathy for one another. I want my students to

encourage each other and develop a sense of community in the classroom. While developing a

competent learner is important, I believe that developing the person inside of the student is just

as important, if not more.

I also believe that education is an adaptive process that should allow students the

opportunity to find themselves. It is important that teachers make adjustments to their

instructional strategies in order to provide students with an engaging and interactive learning

experience that will get the most out of them. Teachers should also be able to adjust their

instruction and evaluation to the learning needs of students. I believe that every student would if

they could, so figuring out how students learn and perform best in order to get the most out of

them is something that I will strive to do as a teacher. I believe that it is an educator’s job to
bring out the best in their students, which means providing them with the necessary support to

find success, as well as challenging them along the way to help them reach their full potentials.

Finally, I wish to be someone my students feel like they can talk to about anything.

Students should know that I care and that I am genuinely interested in their well-being. I wish to

build a relationship with each and every one of my students and to get to know them for who

they are rather than just the student sitting in the desk. There is an old saying that “students will

not care how much you know until they know how much you care” which I believe is so

important for teachers to understand. Only when the students know their teachers are there for

them and their well-being, not just for educational purposes, kids will be more responsive,

willing to cooperate, and will take more responsibility for their learning.
