It is necessary to know that the procedures of the foreign trade have “general steps”, but
each country has specifications regarding certificates and taxes that both the seller and the
buyer must identify.
One of them is to be clear about the tariff position of the merchandise to which it is sent.
"This code is what allows us to know what entry requirements the country of destination
has and allows us to know what tax my merchandise is going to pay in that country,
These classifications have their complexity, so the adviser recommends the support of a
customs agent -which are companies specialized in these foreign trade procedures- or of the
same Dian, who receives a minimum wage, but it takes between two and three months
Likewise, entities such as chambers of commerce, ProColombia and Amcham are supports
that an entrepreneur can use to initiate or clarify doubts about his export process
Thus, if the idea is to export to take advantage of the trade agreements that the country has
in force, such as the FTA with the United States, this is the seven-step guide that you must
complete:

ONE
Constitution of the company. Register in a Chamber of Commerce the natural person or a
legal person (company).
-If it is registered as a company, the corporate purpose must indicate what it is dedicated to
and express that it will be dedicated to the export (or import if necessary) of goods and / or
services.
-If it is already constituted, update the corporate purpose.

TWO
Obtain the RUT (Single Tax Registry) as an exporter.
-There are some boxes enabled to export.
-In box 53 of Responsibilities enable code 10 which means Customs User.
- Enable code 11 there, which updates any company as belonging to the Common Regime.
Every exporter, however small, must be in that tax regime.
-Then other boxes on foreign trade are enabled.
THREE
Identify the tariff position of the product: code with which the merchandise is identified in
the international arena.
-The codes are consulted on the Dian website (www.dian.gov.co) in the Other services
window. There the product tariff is consulted.
-You can also consult them in Decree 49 of 2011.

FOUR
Identify what certificates or good looks the product requires.
-This is given by the competent entity for certain products. In the case of Colombia: ICA
for unprocessed foods and for processed ones the Invima.
-Get the certificate by the authority of the destination country. In the case of food in the US
It is the FDA.

FIVE
Documents that support
The export process. These are:
-Contract between the two parties. Formed by a quote and that the client responds interest.
- Issue a commercial invoice. This must be with the resolution of the Dian and without
VAT invoicing.
-Packing list. It relates the weight and volume of the merchandise that goes in the shipment.
-Certificate of Origin (not mandatory). This brings some benefits in taxes, since it proves
that the merchandise itself is original, that is, it was produced from where it was exported.

SIX
Comply with the customs obligation.
-Present before the Dian the request of authorization of shipment. Where will the
merchandise be delivered?
-Acquire the export declaration. Document proving that there was a clearance process.
SEVEN
Receive the payment of foreign currency in dollars through the exchange market
intermediaries authorized by the Banco de la República.
-It cannot be received in cash.
-The list of authorized banks.
-Fill the document Declaration of Change
