The legend of lake ngebel

Once upon a time there was a village that located at the west of slope of Wilis
mount. The name of village was Gondoyuda. The villagers liked persecuted poor people .
Not far from village, there was a big snake that did meditation to meet his parents . The
name of snake was “Baru Klinting”

One day, the villagers hold a party. They found meat for their party by hunting in
the forest. But, they didn’t find animal. They was very disappointed.

Suddenly, they found a big snake. “Look at that! There were a big snake”.

“That’s right! Hurry up! Before we missed it. And We must kept silent for
killing it.”

“Yes, We must scatter now”

Then, they could kill it. “ Wow.. We could killed it”

After that, it cut became several pieces and brought it to their home for cooking.

“Finally, we could had a big party”

“ That was true! And We could eat full”

During a party, a mangy boy came. He was very hurry.

“ Please help me, I’m very hungry. And give me some your food.”

“ No, you can’t. And you must go out now!”

But, not all of villager was cruel and greedy. Then, Nyai Latung came for helping a
mangy boy by giving some foods.

“It’s some foods for you”

“Thank you very much for your help”

“my pleasure”

After a mangy boy finished his food, he advised to Nyai latung

“ Not long time later, this village there will be a great disaster.”

“What your mean?”

“Please you make mortar.”

“I don’t know what his mean,” Nyai Latung supprised and amazed.

After that, a mangy boy came to villagers who was being eaten snake dish. Then
he entered a stick into the land and he screamed.

“ Who can revoke it?”

“I can , it’s very easy” then person who challenged said “I can’t”
“Look at my muscle! I can pull out it.” However, the result was same. No
person that could pulled out it.

“ Okay, Nobody can’t do it. So, This is my chance to prove it.” Said a mangy
boy.

That stick could revoked and expended a lot of water. All of villager sank. Only Nyai
Latung was safe . Because she obey to the mangy boy word. She rowed her mortar to the
west. Suddenly a mangy boy appeared and he said

“it replied for people who liked persecuted poor people. And you must know if
I’m a big snake that killed. I was an incarnation of governor at the Kingdom of Bantaran
Angin Because of you killed me, I changed into a mangy boy. “

“Sorry, I don’t know if you governor of the kingdom of Bantaran Angin. Please,
don’t punish me.”

“Never mind, I will not punish you. It caused you had help me. Thank you
very much for your help”

“your welcome ”

“This land was submerged and full of water I give the name of the Ngebel
lake.”

Finally, that place was named Ngebel lake

Biwar and the Dragon

One day, the people from the village of Mimika were very busy. They prepared
twelve boats and set off on a journey to find sago (traditional food of the people in the
island of Papua). After three days, their boats were filled with sago. But on their way
back to the village, they were attacked by a dragon. The dragon’s tail caused a big wave
in the river. Most of the villagers were drown, but there’s a woman who managed to save
herself. She was hanging to a tree log and finally arrives in a land.

The woman was the only survivor from the incident. She was pregnant. Her boat
was broken so she couldn’t go back to the village. The woman then lived in the forest
near the river. Later she gave birth to a son. She named her son Biwar. He grew up as a
skillful hunter. He can make various weapons, set traps to catch animals, and provided
sufficient food for both of them.

One day he brought some fish for their food. When his mother saw him bringing
fish, she asked where Biwar got them. He said it was from the river. The mother was still
afraid of the dragon, so she forbade Biwar to go near the river again. She also told him
about his father and the villagers that were killed by the dragon, "Your father was killed
by the dragon. I'm the only one survived from the incident. That's why we live alone
here, Son."

Biwar then decided to hunt the dragon so that he and his mother could go back to
the village. He set traps near the river. Then he made some noise by playing the tifa
(traditional drums). Attracted by the noise, the dragon came to Biwar. When the dragon
started to attack, Biwar pulled the rope that linked to his traps, releasing spears that hit
the dragon’s head directly. The dragon died instantly.

Biwar then came to his mother and told her about the death of the dragon. The
next day, he built a boat and set sail to return to the village. When they arrived in the
village, all the people were so happy to hear the news about the dragon’s death. Thanks
to Biwar, they are not afraid to sail in the river anymore.***

Princess Mandalika

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom in Lombok Island that was ruled by a king
named Raja Tonjang Beru. He was a wise king. He had a queen named Dewi Seranting.
He also had a beautiful daughter named Princess Mandalika. It is said that princess
Mandalika was the prettiest girl in the whole island. Everybody knew about Princess
Mandalika’s beauty and kindness, even the people from other kingdom around the
island.

Princes from all over the place wanted to marry her. One by one, they came to
propose her. Princess Mandalika was a kind girl. She hated to make people sad. So,
when those princes came to propose her, she was very confused. She could not decide,
and she didn’t want to make them sad. She also didn’t want to cause a war to happen
because of her.

To solve the problem, Raja Tonjang Beru then held a competition in Seger Kuta
beach. He asked all the princes to take part in archery competition. The rule was simple;
whoever shot the target perfectly will be accepted as Princess Mandalika’s future
husband. One by one, all participants tried their best. After some time, there was no
winner. All the participants were great in archery.

Because there was no a winner, all the participants started to argue. They claimed
to be the best. The argument was getting hotter. Finally, they all were fighting. Soon, the
fighting got bigger. It was like a war, because all the princes brought their soldiers in the
archery competition. Princess Mandalika was really worried. She did not want the war to
get bigger and hurt many people. Finally, she had an idea. "Everybody, listen up! I know
you all love me and want me to be your wife. But I don't want you to fight because of me.
And I don't want you to be sad either. I want you all to have me, but not as your wife. I
want to be someone that everybody can have," said Princess Mandalika.

Raja Tonjang Beru and all other people in the beach did not understand what she
meant. The king then came to her. But suddenly, Princess Mandalika jumped to the sea.
She disappeared in the big waves. Everybody was surprised. It was chaos on the beach.
All the princes tried to swim to find the princess, but they found nothing.

After several hours trying to search the princess, suddenly they found a lot of
colorful sea worms on the beach. Raja Tonjang Beru then realized that his daughter had
returned as sea worms. The worms were then called nyale. Until now, people in Lombok
always try to catch nyale. Nyale is very delicious and that is why a lot of people come to
Lombok to catch it. However, they can only find it once a year, in February or March.
The tradition to catch the sea worms is called Bau Nyale.***
Telaga Warna

Legenda Telaga Warna

Long long ago, there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by a
king named His Majesty Prabu.

Prabu was a kind and wise king. But it was a pity that Prabu and his queen hadn't
got any children. The queen often cried. That was why Prabu went to the jungle. There
he prayed to God every day, begging for a child.

A few months later, the queen got pregnant. Nine months later, a princess was
born. Prabu and Queen loved their beautiful daughter so much. They gave whatever she
wanted. It made Princess turn into a very spoiled girl.

One day, the princess celebrated her 17th birthday party. Many people gathered in
the palace. Then, Prabu took out a necklace which was made from gold and jewel.

"My beloved daughter, today I give you this necklace. Please, wear this necklace,"
said Prabu.

Narrative Text -Telaga warna

"I don't want to wear it! It's ugly!" shouted the princess. Then she threw the
necklace. The beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on
the floor. Everybody couldn't say anything. They never thought that their beloved
princess would do that cruel thing. In their silence, people heard the queen crying. Every
woman felt sad and began crying, too. Then, everybody was crying. Then, there was a
miracle. Earth was crying.

Suddenly, from the underground, a spring emerged. It made a pool of water. Soon,
the place became a big lake. The lake finally sank the kingdom.

Nowadays, people called the lake "Telaga Warna". It means "Lake of Color". On a
bright day, the lake is full of color. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants,
flowers, and sky around the lake. But some people said that the colors are from the
princess's necklace, which spreads at the bottom of the lake.
The Legend of Reog Ponorogo
Long time ago, there was a wise king who ruled a kingdom in Kediri. He had a
beautiful daughter called Dewi Sanggalangit. When the princess grew up, her well-
known beauty attracted princes and kings from neighboring kingdoms who asked for her
hand to be their wife.

Unfortunately, Dewi Sanggalangit seemed not keen enough to settle down. Her
act of refusing marriage confusing her parents.

When her father asked, she answered, "Father, actually I'm not willing to get
married yet, but if you insist me to settle down at the soonest, I'll do. However there are
some conditions that have to be fulfilled by my spouse."

Then Dewi Sanggalangit stayed in her room for five days and five nights asking
for God's guidance. On the sixth day, she told her parents, "My future husband should
be able to present an exciting performance which has not existed before, kind of dance
with gamelan accompaniment. Followed by a hundred and forty-four twin horses. And
lastly, he must be able to bring a two-headed beast."

At first the king confused. Then he announced his daughter proposal


requirements although it looks like difficult to be completed.

Many applicants who had been passionate to marry Dewi Sanggalangit were
discouraged. They withdrew and gave up,

Finally only two men claimed being able to fulfilled the request. They are
Singabarong, king of Lodaya Kingdom, and King of Bantarangin Kingdom,
Kelanasewandana.

Both of them were unique person. Singabarong was a tiger-headed man with
fierce and cruel nature. However Kelanaswandana was a handsome and dashing one,
but he had strange habits. He admired the boys and considered them as beautiful girl.

King of kediri shocked. But he and her daughter couldn't derail the request that
had been announced.

When both kings were working hard, one day King Singabarong sent his prime
minister, Duke Iderkala to investigate King Kelanaswandana's preparation. Then
Iderkala reported that his majesty's preparation was nothing to his majesty's rival. An
evil plan came to Singabarong's head. He decided play unfair. He prepared his troops
and learn the path Kelanasewandana would take to Kediri then rob his rival's work to be
handed to DewiSanggalangit.

Before the evil plan began, fortunately Bantarangin's prime minister, Duke
Pujanggelang had known it and reported it to King Kelanasewandana. He got so angry
and assaulted Lodaya Kingdom before he would be attacked. With his magical power, he
direct his hand into Singabarong's head and stuck it onto the head of a peacock that
perched on his shoulder and turned them into a strange animal, two-headed beast,
peacock and tiger.

Then king kelanaswandana had completed the task and sent a message to Kediri.
Thus on the appointed day, Kelanaswandana came to Kediri with Reog Dance as
accompaniment, coupled with a hundred and forty-four twin horses, and two-headed
beast who dance wild but beautiful and interesting. With gamelan, kendang, and
trumpet that caused strange mix of sound, resulted lilting melodious symphony.

Everyone who were watching became cheered with delight. King of Kediri and
Dewi Sanggalangit were satisfied.

In the end, Dewi Sanggalangit became the empress of Bantarangin Kingdom.


Since that day King Kelanaswandana never collected boys anymore.

Bantarangin that located in Wengker, now called Ponorogo. So at a later date, the
dance named Reog Ponorogo.
Pascal’s Hairstyle
Pascal the lion was very proud of his mane.It was long and thick,natural and
shiny.Every day he admired his mane in the pond.”What a cool mane I have,”he thought
to himself,combing his hair one by one.

One day Sisi the hamster came to see him,herr face beaming “Pascal!” she called
excitedly.”Have you heard?The Jungle Comittee is holding a Festival Night.To open the
festival,we will parade from the prairie to the hill.You’ve been chosen to lead the parade.
You will go, won’t you?”

Of course Pascal would love to lead the parade.He stated to think of costume he
would wear. “I will change my hairstyle!” he said,looking his refection in the pond. “My
friend will surely suprised and amazed.Just wait and see! I’ll be the most handsome of
the bunch!”

His best friend, Stela the Orangutan,helped Pascal with his hairstyle. “I know just
the right style for you!” Stella excaimed and ruffled Pascal’s mane. Then Stella started
combing Pascal’s mane . She prepared rollers, hairpins, colorful ribbons, a comb,a pair
of scissors,a tube of gel, a can of hairspray nd hairdryer.

After Stella finnished doing his hair,Pascal look at himself in the pond. “Uh-oh! I
don’t like this style! I want another one!”.Stella tried another style. But Pascal was
unsure. “Yikes! I don’t want this one either!” Pascal screamed, horrified. “How about this
one?” asked Stella. Pascal sulked when he saw his reflection in the pond.

After ten hairstyles,Stella was was exhausted.She flopped under the tree and fanned
herself. Pascal stared at his reflection in the pond. He was still unsure of all the hairstyle
Style Stella tried on him.

“What now? Pascal asked in despair. But fortunately Stella came up with a great idea
at the last moment. “Ha! I think I know the most suitable hairstyle for you, Pascal!”

During the festival, Pascal led the parade.He waved to his friends.His smile and face
were bright.Everyone agreed thet the best hairstyle for Pascal was his natural style: free
and breezy, thick and shiny.
What’s That Noise?
It was late at night.Father Dragon and his daughter,Nana.were getting ready for
bed.Nana had brushed her teeth.She had just listened to two bedtime stories from his

SOEKARNO

Soekarno was born in Surabaya, on June 6,1901,and named as Koesno


Sosrodihardjo,however he was often sick so that his parent change his name into
Soekarno.Many people adored him because he had many special characteristics. He was
charismatic and he made many people grace him. His parents were teachers who had
huge influence. They were Raden Soekemi Sosrodiharjdon and Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai.
Soekarno had many wives. They are Oetari, Inggit Ganarsih, Fatmawati, Hartini, Kartini
Manoppo, Ratna Sari Dewi, Haryanti, Yurike Sanger, and Heldy Dfajar. Fatmawati gave
him five children. They are Megawati Soekarno Putri, Sukmawati Soekarno Putri,
Rachmawati Soekarno Putri, Guntur Soekarno Putra and Guruh Soekarno Putra
Soekarno went to primary school in Mojokerto and after that he continued his
study to High School in Surabaya. There were many advantages by having education in
Surabaya. One of those was he knew many figures who had reformist soul and they were
willing to struggle for Indonesia’s independence. After he graduated from high school,he
continued his study in Bandung. At that era, he chose Netherlands Engineering School
or now it is well-known as ITB (Bandung Institute of technology).
After he finished his study, Soekarno realized and became more concered in
the struggle to reach the indepence of Indonesia. The history noted that his effort was
hard and he often dealt with law. Soekarno also establish a party named Indonesia
National Party on July 4, 1926. The purpose of this party was to free Indonesia from
Netherlands colonial government. Due to his bravery, the colonial government arrested
him and he was jailed in Suka Miskin on December 1929. He was free from the jail in
1931.
Nevertheless his struggle came true than on August 17, 1945. Soekarno and
Moh. Hatta declare the independence and freedom of Indonesia. This declaration of
independence brought them together to be the first president and vice president of
Indonesia. During his presidency, Soekarno faced many problems. He focused in
building the image of Indonesia to eyes of the world. Soekarno also got many award. One
of them was a doctor title from 26 universities in Indonesia and the other countries,
such as Gajah Mada University, Indonesia University, Bandung Institute of Technology,
Padjajaran University, Hasanudin University, Institut Agama Islam Negeri Jakarta,
Colombia University, Berlin University, Lomonosov University, and Al- Azhar University.
President Soekarno also gives many ideas to the intenational world. He felt empathically
to help the countries in Africa wich had not got their independence yet, therefore he
initiated to hold a conference of Asia-Africa in Bandung 1955.
Soekarno had to step back in 1967. After his presidency period, his spent his
time in Bogor Palace. Day by day, his health became worsen so that he had to get care
from president’s doctor team. He pass away on June 20, 1970, in Jakarta. Soekarno is
well known as the founding Father of Indonesia. He was given a title as proclamation
here.
JAKA TARUB AND NAWANG WULAN
Jaka Tarub is a handsome and dilligent young man,he lived village near a lake.
One day when he passed the lake,he heard some giggles and laugh of some girls who
were bathing in the lake. He was very currious,so he peeped through the bushes. There
were seven beautiful girls in the lake,thery’re fairies from the heavenly kingdom of
khayangan. Jaka Tarub saw a scarf near a bushes,it belonged to one of the fairies
named Nawang Wulan. Jaka Tarub then took it,and hid it.Because Jaka Tarub hid
Nawang Wulan scarf,she can’t go back to khayangan with her sisters.

“Ekhm...Excuse me,are you okay?”,said Jaka Tarub. Nawang Wulan was


surprised and moved backward.”Who...who are you?”,she asked. ”My name is Jaka
Tarub, I was passing by and I heard you crying.So I came to see what happend”, Jaka
Tarub lied. Nawang Wulan then told him about her problems, “Huhuhu....I can’t fly and
go to my home without my scarf”,she said. Then Jaka Tarub Asked her to go home with
him. At first Nawang Wulan refused the offer,but since she didn’t have anywhere else to
go,she decided to follow Jaka Tarub. Nawang Wulan lived with Jaka Tarub in the village.
A month passed and they decided to get married. Nawang Wulan was willing to marry a
human because she feel in love with Jaka Tarub. After a year they had a baby,they
named her Kumalasari. They lived happily.

Jaka Tarub was also happy to lived with Nawang Wulan and
Kumalasari,especially because he alway got a lot of harvest since he married Nawang
Wulan. “Hmm...Nawang Wulan cooks everyday but why is my barn always full?”,he was
so currious. One day he decided to stay at home. “I want to stay home today, I’ll would
like to play with Kumalasari”, he said. “Well I’ll go to the river to washed the
clothes.Please keep and eye on Kumalasari”,she said. “Oh...I’m cooking rice now,please
don’t open the pan cover before it’s done!”, she said just before she left. “Could this be
the secret?” Jaka Tarub thought. After Nawang Wulan left he curriously open the pan
cover,he was so surprised because he found only one single paddy.”How could??”,he
wondered.

Nawang Wulan come home before lunch.She headed go to the kitchen to see
the rice she had cooked. She was surprised,because she found only a few grain. “Did
you open the pan cover!?”,she asked. “I...I’m sorry...I’m so currious”, he said as he
realized his fault. At last,Nawang Wulan lost her power.She couldn’t cooks rice with only
one single paddy again. Their paddy supply was slowly lessened. One day Nawang
Wulan go to the barn to get some paddy. When she took one of them,she found a
scarf.”Ehhh....what is this??? This is my scarf!!!”,Nawang Wulan surprissed.

That night Nawang Wulan ask Jaka Tarub about the scarf. Jaka Tarub eyes
widened “Y..You found it???”,he ask.Jaka Tarub then ask for her forgiveness.
“Well...Because I’ve found my scarf,it’s time for me to go back where I belong”, she
said.Jaka Tarub tried to stop her, but she had made up her mind. “Please take good care
of Kumalasari.If she want to see me, take seven grains of candle nut and put it into a
basket,shake it as you play the bamboo flute. I’ll come to see her”, she explained.
