•Degradable: That undergoes significant changes in its chemical structure when subjected to
various specific environmental conditions, resulting in a loss of properties that can be measured
by standard methods, in a given period of time.

•Biodegradable: That undergoes degradation resulting from the action of naturally occurring
microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and algae. There is no reference to the amount of time
needed for degradation or the type of physical and chemical quality attributes of the end
product.

•Compostable : That undergoes degradation by biological processes during composting to yield

CO2, water, inorganic compounds and biomass at a rate consistent with other compostable
materials and leaves no visible, distinguishable or toxic residue.

•*OXO-biodegradable: Material to which a metal-based additive is added to accelerate

degradation by sunlight (UV), heat and / or mechanical stress. This first degradation results in
small fragments, often invisible to naked eye, that could be biodegraded in a second degradation
phase. *As oxo-degradable plastics are conventional plastics with additives and not biodegradable or bio-
based plastics, they should not be linked or named in the same context as bioplastics. From https://www.astm.org/
via https://bagtoearth.com/us/municipalities/compostable-vs-biodegradable/

A biodegradable material is not necessarily

compostable because it must also break up Omnidegradable® Safely decompose anywhere
during one composting cycle. On the other microbes are present - including landfills,
hand, a material that breaks up, over one Oceans and wilderness settings - without
composting cycle, into microscopic pieces that requiring sunlight, heat or oxygen to
are not totally biodegradable, is decompose.
not compostable.
•Difference between plastic to fuel and plastic to energy:
•Plastic to Fuel uses Pyrolysis high temperatures to convert plastics back into petroleum that can be refined
into gasoline, diesel, and kerosene.
•Depending on the solution provider, plastics #1, 3 and 7 can not be re-converted into oil but they can be used
to produce energy. (Plastic to Energy uses high temperature to burn plastics, create steam to produce
electricity).

•Difference between polymer chemical recovery, chemical recycling and recycling:

•Depolymerisation or Polymer chemical recovery extracts the monomers from plastic packaging to create raw
materials for the production of virgin plastics.
•Plastic chemical recycling includes converting the majority of unsorted plastic waste back into a valuable low
Sulphur hydrocarbon as light oil, wax, heavy fuel oil, and as a synthetic source for fully recycled plastic.
•Polymer/Plastic recycling includes taking any type of plastic, sorting it into different polymers, chipping it and
then melting it down into pellets.

•Existing Decontamination?: Industrial washing/recycling line. Stiphout Plastics in the Netherlands is able to
clean plastics that are polluted with frying oils. Using sophisticated separation technology they can re-use the water
and cleaning agent and supply the purified oil to biofuel producers.

•PVC - VYNIL REUSE: PVC flexible packaging for clothes, bedding etc. that are used once can be reused instead
of recycling them or sending them to landfill or incineration. Impose levies and deposit schemes to facilitate
development of a PVC-VYNIL reuse industry and market.

•Enforced lamination packaging standards?: Through Raw Material Disclosure, barcoding, coding, (RFID, Laser
Induced Graphene tagging, tracer and watermark sorting can add value and can be introduced and standardized across
the plastics industry to ensure uniform market take-up).

•Biodegradable & Recyclable materials: Scale recycling industry and markets.

•Biodegradable & Compostable from certified organic matter: Scale Upcycling to Bioplastics industry
