Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 3

Grade: 3 Semester: First Semester

Core Subject Title: Science 3
I Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners shall be able to:
1. To identify the 4 phases of Water cycle.
2. To develop awareness on the proper consumption of water.
3. To explain how water moves from state to state in water cycle.
II Learning Content
Topic: Water Cycle
CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of water cycle.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
The learners describe the importance of water in our daily activities.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learners will do a water cycle experiment for them to recognized how
water changes from one state to another.

CODE:

Page 323-326.
Materials: Pictures, Book, Manila Paper, Pentel Pen, Cartolina, Globe
Value Integrated: Proper conservation of water.
III Learning Task
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Good morning Students” “Good morning teacher Belle”

“Are you ready to pray students?” “Yes, we are…”

“Prayer position “Teacher will lead the prayer”

“Before you take a sit, I want you to pick up pieces “The students will pick up some pieces of
of paper under your chairs and tables” paper under the chair and table.”

“Arrange your chairs and tables and take a sit.” “The students will take a sit.”

“Is there any absent?” “No ma’am”

“Very good!! Everybody is present.”

A. Priming Activating Knowledge

Learning Task:
Review
“Last time we discussed about the 4 types of
“Last time we discussed about what?” clouds”

“Ok, Very good!” “No, Ma’am”

“Is there any question about our past lesson?”

“Very good, if you really understood our past

lesson, I prepared an activity for you.”

“The name of this activity is “Tell Me, Who I am”

I will describe each type of cloud then you have
to name the type of cloud I am referring to.

“All you have to do is to get the stick cloud with

name that is place on the table at the center”

“Do you understand?” “Yes, we do.”

 I’m a puffy cloud that looks like a puff of

cotton. Who I am? “Cumulus Clouds”
 I’m a cloud that looks like a feather. Who I
am? “Cirrus Clouds”
 I indicate fair weather when I scattered fair
blue sky. Who I am? “Cirrus Clouds”
 I am a low cloud that covers most of the
sky. Who I am? “Stratus Cloud”
 I am a rain cloud. Who I am? “Nimbus Cloud”

“Excellent!! It seems everybody understand our

past lesson”

“Everybody clap our hands.” “Students will clap their hands”

Learning task 2:
Motivation

“the teacher will show a globe and will explain

the following to the class. 75% of the earth’s
surface is filled with water and 25% of the earth
is covered with land. Therefore, water covers a
wider area of the earth surface than the land.

Motivation Questions
“Do you think the amount of water on earth
decrease since its existence?”

“Who says No and Who says Yes?” “Answer may vary”

“The amount of water on earth does not change.

It remains the same. Why?”

“Today we will find out”

Value Integration

“When do you used water?” “I used water every day in taking a bath,
washing clothes, watering the plant, drinking,
cooking.”

“and many more in my daily task.”

“We cannot survive without water”
“Water is very important”
“Do you turn the faucet off when not in used? “Answer may vary”

“I heard from the weather forecast that there will

be a long El Nino break for the next coming
summer”
“What do we need to do prevent water shortage.” “We need to used the water properly”

“Very good, we need to use the water properly”

Lesson Proper
Learning Task 3:
Activity
“Water Cycle Experiment”
Materials needed:
 Boiling hot water
 Transparent container
 Glass
 Ice
 Cling wrap
Instructions:
Put the boiling hot water inside the transparent
container, then put the glass inside the container
at the center. Then cover the container well with
the cling wrap. Then put the ice cube at the top.
Then let the student observe for 5 to 10 mins.

Inciting Questions
 What happened to the water inside the “Answer may vary”
container?
 What have you observed?
 What have happened to the ice?

Learning Task 4:
Analysis

“The teacher will challenge the students to think

about these questions.”
“it comes from the clouds”
 Where does the rain come from?
“Very good!!”
 Where does the rain will go? “It will go to the rivers, lake and sea”
“Very good children”

“These elements are part of something called

“water cycle”
“the teacher will present a diagram of a water
cycle”
WATER CYCLE

Learning Task 5:
Abstraction

“What is water cycle? A water cycle is the

process by which water moves from place to
place above, on, and below the earth surface.
- Water cycle is made up of 4 process or
stages such as Evaporation,
Condensation, Precipitation and
Collection.

The first stage of water cycle is Evaporation

 Evaporation is a process when the sun
heats up water in sea, rivers, lakes, ocean
and ponds the turns into water vapor or
steam and rises up into the
air/atmosphere.
(the teacher will show an image of this process.)

The second stage of the water cycle is

Condensation.
 Condensation as the water vapor rises
higher into the air/atmosphere, it cools
and condenses. Condensation means that
water changes from gas (water vapor or
steam) to liquid (water droplets) forming
the clouds in the sky.
(the teacher will show an image of this process)
The third stage of water cycle is precipitation.
 Precipitation the water keeps condensing
to form clouds, but when there is too
much accumulation or collection of water
in these clouds, the clouds become
heavy. This means the air can no longer
hold this much amount. Rain is a form of
precipitation.
(the teacher will show an image of this process.)

The last stage is Collection.

This happens when water go back together into
the different bodies of water, ground, plants and
animals.

“So again class, what are the 4 stages in water

cycle? “the four stages are Evaporation,
Condensation, Precipitation and Collection”
“So, where does the water goes back?”
“the water goes back to the different bodies
of water, ground, plants and animals.”
“Very Good! It seems like you are really listening
to the discussion”

Learning Task 6
Application

Label each step in the water cycle using the

words place above the illustration.

EVAPORATION CONDENSATION

PRECIPITATION COLLECTION
IV Evaluation

Directions: Identify the cycle phase describe in

each sentence. Write the letter of the correct
answer on the space before the number.

a. Water cycle
b. Evaporation
c. Condensation
d. Precipitation
e. Collection

____1. It is the process wherein the water falls

back to earth, it may go into the ocean, lakes or
rivers. 1.e
____2. The sun heats up water in seas, rivers,
lakes and oceans and turns it into water vapor 2. b
and rises up into the air.
____3. The water vapor in the air gets cold and
changes back to liquids into tiny drops of water 3.c
forming clouds.
____4. The water moves from place to place
above, on and below the earth surface. 4.a
____5. The clouds get heavy and water falls
back in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow 5.d

V. Assignment:
Make a collage of a water cycle illustrating its 4 phases.
To be pass next week.
