My Teaching Philosophy

Over the decades the student’s role in education has not changed

which is to sit there in class and listen and learn. The teacher’s role in

education through the years has changed. The way it has changed is the

teacher’s teaching method. The main goal of the teacher though stayed

the same which is to get their students to learn the material. The role of

the teacher in the community is to be a role model, someone the kids can

look up to. The teacher is a person the parents and the community know

will influence their children to do well in the world.

Why I want to teach? I have so many answers for that one

question. I grew up wanting to work with kids and I wanted to save the

world. Those things were steps to me wanting to be a teacher. When I

was in high school, I mostly kept to myself. A counselor then suggested

R.O.T.C. and that honestly changed my life. I thanked the counselors

every day for that suggestion. I then decided to join the military to help

save the world. After I got out of the service I still wanted to change the

world but I didn’t know how. I could do that as a teacher or a counselor.

The role of an educator is to help students become whoever they want to

when they grow up. The education to get there is a huge step to their

dream.

I will reach the wide diversity depending on what the diversity

means. If diversity stand for ethnicity it is better to mingle all the

ethnicities because students become friends with anyone no matter what

ethnicity they are. If the diversity stands for learning abilities, I believe

working in groups and having students that take a little longer to obtain

information sit amongst the others. The other students will be willing to

help just as much as the teacher would. The community of learners is

very different every student is different. They all have their own little

specialty and I think it is the teacher’s job to help the student try to

figure out what that is. I believe all children learn at different paces and

because of that the classroom has to be arranged a certain way, the

instructions for everybody is different and assessment cannot be

assumed to be all the same. The classroom can be arranged by having

the students that need more attention sit near the teacher/the front of the

classroom. In doing so they know you are watching them and have faster

access to help them out with assignments. The instructional strategy

would be to explain the instructions in front of the classroom then for

those that need very specific detail I would go over and help those

students out one on one.

My goal for the students is to have the students is to obtain the

information they need to pass the STARR but, not just that but for them

to have real world knowledge at the same time. The knowledge to help

them shape the world because the younger generation I think are the key

to the helping the planet. You can always put things to help the

environment in a lesson plan. You can put pollution/recycling in math or

science.

My relationship with the community is to be a role model and

someone they can trust to have their kids with for about 8 hours of the

day. The relationship with the staff will remain professional and always

open for tips and critiques from my administration or colleagues. My

overall goal of course is to help the students excel in their education
