Habit #35:
Drink Buko Juice Regularly
Here’s one of my favorite Healing Habits: I drink Coconut Water or Buko
Juice every day.
No kidding.
We take a trip to the market every two to three days to buy Buko Juice.
We then stack it up in the Refrigerator in plastic jars—and the Buko Juice can
last for two to three days.
My mother has a better system. Her helper brings home the coconuts
with the juice still in their coconut shells. She stocks them in styropor box.
Whenever Mom wants to drink buko juice, her helper will just pick a coconut,
slice the opening, and pour it into a glass from the shell. The closer you are to
from “fresh”, the better, because you retain most of the enzymes.
I love buko juice so much, I probably drink it as much as I drink water.
(Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but not much.)
When I was in the US for a two week vacation, one of the things that I
missed was my daily Buko Juice. It just wasn’t readily available there (or perhaps
I was looking in the wrong places).
Buko simply is the purest liquids that God has give us.
How I Drink It
Some time back, I read a book by Pi Villaraza. He was a corporate man who became a hermit for a year.
In his search for meaning, he went to a secluded island and fasted. For six months, he ate nothing else but coconut.

During World War II, coconut water was being used as an emergency IV solution by military doctors. They
had found out that coconut water can replace commercial IV solutions when rehydration therapy was needed.
The mineral or elecrolyte content of coconut water is the same as our human body fluids. This means it’s
easily absorbed by the body. It contains a mix of nutrients that are needed for growth and development – natural
sugars, minerals, amino acids, vitamins, hormones and enzymes.
Coconut water is a good source of magnesium, calcium and potassium. In fact, a glass of coconut water is
equivalent to the potassium in two (2) medium-sized bananas.
Here are the great things what buko juice can do for you:
One of the most interesting component of coconut water is its plant growth hormones. Coconut water is
a rich dietary source of cytokinins. What’s so great about cytokinins? It’s a group of hormones that can affect the
growth, development, and aging of our cells. Yes, you can slow down the aging of your cells! (Hmm, no wonder
my wife says I’m getting younger.) This means you can lower the risk of developing
age-related diseases if you drink coconut water regularly.
Another great thing about coconut water is its mineral content. The minerals
potassium and magnesium have been known to help lower blood pressure. Coconut
water’s high magnesium and potassium content is the reason why a lot of studies have
shown that coconut water can effectively reduce high blood pressure and increase
circulation, which in effect can reduce the risk of a stroke.

Because of its rich electrolyte content, blood vessels dilate and plaque is formation reduced. Coconut
water improves blood flow, which is great especially for diabetics.
4. Aids Digestion
Bioactive enzymes like acid phosphatase and diastase are naturally present in coconut water. These
enzymes help the body’s digestion and metabolism.
Coconut water is full of natural sugars and salts. It’s full of natural
vitamins that can hold off fatigue and weakness. The vitamin B’s and C’s in a glass
of coconut water is great for replenishing worn out cells and tissues as well as
shielding the body from viruses and sicknesses like scurvy. It’s better than any
bottled synthetic sports drink that is being sold by all those top athletes.
Drinking at least 100ml of buko juice every day means you get around
294 mg of potassium – wonderful for helping lower blood pressure. Forget
about the potassium in commercial “energy drinks”—that doesn’t contain the
other powerful natural stuff in buko juice.
And a glass of buko juice contains only 5mg of natural sugars. Compare
that to the 10-25mg of “alterned” sugars that sports drinks have.
When buko juice is taken regularly, you also make sure that you’re
helping out your liver flush out all the toxins in your body.
It acts as a detoxifier, washing out poisons in your blood. The lauric
acid in the coconut water has anti-microbial properties that are great for the
liver.
Buko juice is so fantastic, I had to ask myself the question: Why don’t we know about this?
Here’s the answer. Because buko juice’s not distributed by a large pharmaceutical company. Nor is it
manufactured by a laboratory of a giant MLM or networking company.

May your dreams come true,

P.S. Some people say that to be healthy, you have to “sacrifice” delicious food and drinks. I beg to disagree. This
Healing Habit is proof. Drinking a cold glass of buko juice or shake every day is so delicious and refreshing,
you’ll realize being healthy is the only way to enjoy life!
