Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Kahoot! Is a great tool that demonstrates Universal Design
for Learning. The games can be made in a way that helps all types of learners. For example, for
the visual type of learners, there is an option to add pictures with the questions. Students can
access the quizzes through a link provided by the teacher or through a free Kahoot! account. They
can look back on these quizzes to review content and to get a deeper understanding. Finally, this
type of student response tool keeps the students engaged. The quizzes are made in a way that
makes it fun for students to participate.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will
introduce the SRT activity.
Before the SRT activity, the lesson will be introduced with a BrainPop video. This is so the students
know what all we will be covering. After the video, students will be encouraged to discuss their
previous knowledge on the subject and their misunderstandings. Further down the line, I will teach
the content by using a Nearpod presentation. In the presentation, it will be content based as well
as some games and interactive activities to keep the students interested. When I think the class
has a good understanding of the subject, I will use the student response tool (Kahoot!). This tool
will show me if the class is ready to take a test on the content or if we need to go back to review
it.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
X Assess prior knowledge X Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate
common misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of
differentiation and mastery for ALL students) X Summative assessment of content knowledge
X Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During the SRT activity, teachers and students will need to be actively participating. The teacher
will have the Kahoot! game projected on the board so the class can see the questions and the
students will have the answers on their devices. The teacher will The game includes 16 questions,
so it should not take more than 20-25 minutes to complete.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

X Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

X Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)

Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the
questions and display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
X Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? I will make sure the students know what the correct answer is before moving on
and why it is correct. This will help because if they got it wrong, I want them to understand why.

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the student response tool activity, I will look at the questions that most of the class missed (if
any) and explain it. I want to make sure everyone understands the answers for the questions. If
everyone has a good understanding, I will test them over the content.
How will the data be used?
The data collected from Kahoot! will be used to guide the direction of the class. If I notice a lot of
students are missing a certain question or are overall not understand the content, I will be sure to
revisit it. Before moving on to something else, I want to make sure everyone understands the
information.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My personal learning goal for this activity is I hope to learn how to effectively integrate Kahoot! In
the classroom in a way that keeps the students interested. I hope by using this tool it will actually
make the students want to learn and participate. I think this tool has the ability to make
assessments fun because it sparks competitiveness with the point system.
Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson plan, I am positive the activities I created can help
students learning. The student response tool I created can serve an important purpose in
instruction in the classroom. This tool can help teachers collect data from a class to track each
students progress as well as benefit the students with a formative assessment. To further extend
this lesson, I would incorporate more student response tools other than just Kahoot! such as
Quizlet and Socrative.
