 What does making a difference mean?
At Family Resources, it is an action big or small that helps to create a change for the better – in a person’s
life, in the health of a family, in the prosperity of a community. As we reflect on another year, we are proud
of the impact that Family Resources has had in the communities we serve across Eastern Iowa and Western
Illinois. We are a part of the fabric of our communities, connecting and collaborating to create changes for
the better.

For more than 168 years, Family Resources has invested in relationships to help build strong families
and communities. Our “connectivity” requires us to work together to provide the best support, at the
time needed, and in the most effective way possible. Each
story, photo and highlight in this annual report highlights an
individual, moment or event that reflects the positive impact
we are making as we help to strengthen children, families
and individuals.

Most importantly, these stories are a reflection of you. You’re

receiving this annual report because of your connection to
our work. As a staff person, volunteer, donor, funder – you
are an essential partner in our mission to improve the lives of
children, families and individuals.

As a connected partner, you’ve heard us talk about President, Chair, Board of Directors
TotalChild; the innovative service delivery model that lifts Family Resources
up at-risk youth with ongoing support until they reach 18
– helping to ensure that they become successful adults.
We’re entering into the third year of our three-year TotalChild pilot in Scott County, and we are pleased to
report that we have close to 100 children enrolled to date! With more than 20 community partners, we are
collectively working to ensure that the mental, physical, and behavioral needs of these children are met.

On behalf of the Family Resources’ staff and Board of Directors, we thank you for your ongoing support
for the children, families and individuals in our community – together we can create a caring community of
healthy families!

organization. We intend that these values will guide us in our

SAFETY We believe that safety is fundamental. We believe that
safety comes first for our clients, our staff and the community.
A safe environment is necessary for our clients to learn, to
grow and to turn their lives around. Safety grows out of trusting
relationships that are based on respect for the dignity of all
persons.
SERVICE We are here to serve others. Service has been a core
value of Family Resources for more than 150 years. We serve
others because we care deeply about kids, people, families
and the community. We care so much that we are committed to
providing a continuum of services to respond to the needs of
people.
TEAMWORK We believe that teamwork works for us, for our
clients and for the community. Our board, staff and clients work
together in teams. As an organization, we believe that working
collaboratively with other partners in the community is the most
effective way to pursue our mission.
RESOURCEFULNESS We believe that Family Resources has
grown for more than 165 years because we are resourceful. As
the needs of our community changed, we have learned to adopt,
grow and change with the times. We believe that to accomplish
our mission, we need to continuously learn, innovate and be

 TRACY AND SAM’S STORY
BEHAVIORAL Tracy, Sam and their three children are currently enrolled in TotalChild.
HEALTH Being enrolled in TotalChild, they have benefitted from services provided by Family
INTERVENTION Resources and our community partners. Their oldest daughter, Megan, was the
first child to enroll. Megan’s family learned of TotalChild through Family Resources
as she was receiving Counseling and Therapy, Behavioral Health Intervention and
Foster Care services.
“Since our oldest daughter was receiving a variety of services, TotalChild seemed
to be the most beneficial next step to help our family coordinate services, identify
potential new service providers, and to provide an advocate for Megan and our

After experiencing success with Megan, Tracy and Sam enrolled their other two
children into TotalChild. They have been receiving counseling and therapy to help
them process through trauma they experienced when they were younger. “We
are seeing changes in each of our kids as they work through what were tough

OTHER VIOLENT All three kids have been involved with Play Therapy through Mental Health services

of anger management and communication. One has received services from Family
Resources Engaging Males program and is working with an Engaging Males mentor.
“Our Success Manager continues to work with us to connect us to available services,
coordinate these services and communicate our needs to various team members.
She is our constant cheerleader helping us through the tough times and helping our
family achieve success.”

TotalChild was created by our affiliate partner, Four Oaks in

2011. Four Oaks has achieved remarkable child outcomes
during the last six years and has validated child
outcomes with research experts at the University of Iowa.
Family Resources’ pilot of TotalChild will serve 170 youth REACHED STABILITY
