Reinforcement provided = T 12 @ 200 c/c Eachface
Area of reinforcement = 565 mm2 Eachface
ρc Reinforcement ratio = 0.28 %

W = Smax*0.5*α(T1+T2) = 0.51 mm

W>Wmax NOT OK

fbt 2 ρc

NOTE:
1) It is considered that the reinforcement ratio provided is greater than the critical reinforcement
ratio in a section with full restraint (i.e No Joints)
2) It is considered that the grade slab is constructed over a fully well compacted surface without any
pockets
3) For members thicker than 500mm, the thickness of effective surface zone is 250mm.
For members lesser than 500 mm thick, the thickness of effective surface zone is half of its thick.

ρc = Reinforcement ratio in a section (%)

Φ = Diameter of Rebar
α = Co-efficient of linear expansion of concrete
T1 = Short-term fall in temperature from hydration peak to ambient
T2 = Long-term fall in ambient temperature due to seasonal variations
Wmax = Allowable width of crack
W = Actual width of crack
Smax = Maximum crack spacing
fct = 0.67 for Type-2 (ribbed) deformed bars

ρcrit = Critical Reinforcement ratio in a section (%) ρcrit = fct
