Why I Love Marine Technology

Nenek moyang seorang pelaut, gemar mengarung luas Samudra and so on and on that
song keeps buzzing in my tiny little head right when I was just a little boy. Why marine
technology? Why ITS?.Well at the time I don’t realy understand the meaning and just
considerate just a song. When I was a kid my parents liked to take me on a beach trip, the first
beach I visited was the beach at Gili Air, Lombok, NTB. There I saw leaning on a pinisi boat
and a cruise ship. At that time I was amazed by the splendor of the ship but unfortunately the
ship does not belong to Indonesian people but it is owned by Caucasians. Then, on the other
occasion, I was also invited to take a cruise, I was amazed at how the ship was moving, able
to float and can carry many people.well here I am from a small district in Riau,
Pekanbaru.studing in Surabaya far from home because I know ITS is a maritime center in
Indonesia and ITS provides a place for entrepreneurship. As we know today entrepreneurship
is very beneficial not only for yourself but for others and for countries where we can open
jobs for others then I can also support countries in the field of export import which is very
important to advance this country. But if you want to be an entrepreneur why become an
Engineer? Why not just a business school?Engineers are professions gained through certain
education and responsible experience. With a variety of issues regarding the equipment
defense equipment crisis, the impact of global warming, the lack of a fleet of ships, lack of
ports, etc. Engineers become one of the targets to change all that. It is the responsibility of
the engineer to provide a solution to this issue. Departing from this, high creativity is needed
from an engineer. New innovation is what is demanded from an engineer. Never stop issuing
ideas and new discoveries that can prosper the community. Then can creativity and
innovation be created? Of course you can, but it takes time and hard work for that. The
condition of our environment is very vital; does it stimulate us to work harder or vice versa.
Maybe many people will think whether what is needed is just creative engineers? What about
intelligence or intelligence. Intelligence is a natural talent that is honed. This is important, but
not the main key in the creativity of an engineer. Intelligence is only the limit of creativity. The
reason I chose it is because ITS is one of the best campuses in Indonesia, Shining Achievement
in Research, Supporting the Soul, as well as the only Best maritime campus in Indonesia, which
supports maritime affairs in Indonesia. As we all know two out of three of Indonesia is water.
Indonesia with a sea area of 5.8 million square kilometers, covering the coast along 81,000
kilometers or equal to twice the equator, can be understood if the potential for vulnerability
always arises. This condition certainly requires more attention, especially if the dream of
becoming the ruler of the archipelago sea really wants to be realized. It takes courage to do
some kind of value reorientation. The paradigm of a concentric state based on land must be
shifted, at least in stages to the development of maritime culture. Jalesveva Jayamahe,is one
of the most iconic slogan that means Di Laut Kita Jaya. Our primeminister Ir Djoeanda have
declare NKRI as an archipelagic state on 13th December 1957,well it’s been 62 years since the
declarence but why we as one of the longest coastline after Canada still haven’t seen sea as
a good potensial.Even though 21st aug we celebrate the maritime day but every year it almost
passes without any meaning at all.Eventully not just that we lost control of our sea but we all
so lost the power to use the resources the in it self. The problem, faced with this fact, is that
the Indonesian Navy as the front guard in securing the vast archipelago sea has only less than
150 warships. The limitation is still faced with conditions where the defense equipment owned
by the Navy is on average no longer compatible with technological developments.Abundant
fisheries resources. So many types are available at sea, we can immediately "harvest" without
first having to "plant" the seeds. It only needs capital and its capture and management
technology. Not to mention the source of oil and gas. From around 60 basins, 40 basins are
offshore and 14 basins are in the coastal area. The number of basins containing oil and natural
gas may only be a small fraction of the actual potential that is still stored in the archipelago
sea floor. The wound of the former occupation for more than 350 years still imprints on us yes
it is proven by our lack of awareness of this nation that makes the sea as the last resource
choice where, this nation itself prefers to advance its agriculture, yes, it is the product of the
invaders. How do they know that in fact our greatest potential is in the ocean, where what
makes our country feared respected can even become superpowers that is not agriculture
but how we process our oceans. the great maritime tradition possessed by the Indonesian
people collapsed. Although until the end of the 17th century shipbuilding in Banten was still
going on until the region was conquered by the Dutch in 1684, in other parts of Java the
activities of the great tradition were no longer visible.
Even now the archipelago sea as a commercial area is still controlled by foreigners.
Nearly 95 percent of the loading and unloading flow of various export and import
commodities is controlled by foreign commercial vessels. Even more than 50 percent of the
goods delivered are using foreign shipping services fitted with "Red and White". While more
than 80 percent of the approximately 7,000 fishing vessels licensed for operations in
Indonesian waters are owned by foreign investors.
Karena dengan marine technology kita bias menopang bahkan membuat negara kita
menjadi lebih maju
Karena negara kita merupakan kemaritiman yang menunggu putra-putri bangsanya
untuk mengoalah sumber daya alam yang ada
