Introduction to Internship

This report is a short description of my four-month internship carried out as compulsory

requirement of the course Bachelor of Science in Social Work. The internship was carried out
within the City of Social Welfare and Development office located in Brgy. Poblacion I.

At the beginning of the internship I formulated several learning goals, which I wanted to achieve:

to understand the functioning and working conditions of a governmental office; to see what is
like to work in a professional environment;

to see if this kind of work is a possibility for my future career; to use my gained skills and
knowledge;

to see what skills and knowledge I still need to work in a professional environment;

to learn about the organizing of a research project (planning, preparation, permissions etc.) to
learn about research methodologies (field methods/methods to analyze data)

to get fieldwork experience/collect data in an environment unknown for me;

to get experience in working in another country/with persons from another culture; to enhance
my communication skills;

This internship report contains my activities that have contributed to achieve a number of my
stated goals. After this a reflection on my functioning, the unexpected circumstances and the
learning goals achieved during the internship are described. Finally, I give a conclusion on the
internship experience according to my learning goals.
It is with deep appreciation that I am writing to thank you for the internship opportunity you
provided me over 4 months. I am especially grateful for the personal time and attention you
dedicated to my personal and professional growth. Your guidance helped me achieve the highest
standards in my work, but it was your genuine interest in my academic achievements that I will
remember for the rest of my life.

Over the course of the On-the- Job training, I learned that my opinion matters and that I have
what it takes to make a positive contribution to the team. The employees in this department were
especially helpful and because of them, I have grown and developed into a confident individual.

As a Student, I know I need more development and knowledge to become the individual I
wanted to be. For all the mistake I’ve done, I learned a lot of lesson but for me this is only a start
of the challenges going to come. This path I’m going to take is not easy but step-by-step I know I
can change who I am into a person respectable and right for the course I’ve chosen.

I know I am not confident enough to become a social worker and this low self- esteem affects
other people a lot. I just wanted to say Thank you for all your understanding and consideration
and Sorry for all the mistakes and disturbances I’ve done.

You, and the entire department, impressed me with your willingness to help another achieve
success. From day one, I felt like a valued member of the team. I fully expect our paths to cross
again in the future. Until then, I will miss your counsel greatly.

Sincerely,

Sofia L. Jalandoni,
