DANIEL’S STRESS
“I should have more time for me. Yesterday I should have listened to my
parents when they told me to slow down. At the time, I was playing on the
baseball team, studying really hard, and working on Saturdays. I have little
time for myself and, as a consequence, I get bad grades.

I also had my first girlfriend. I wasn’t eating too well or sleeping enough.
Then I started getting headaches and my skin broke out in a bad rash so that is
why sometimes I have negatives thoughts about myself. My parents sent me to
the doctor. The doctor said my problem was stress and advised me to take it
easy. He told me that I was getting less than seven hours of sleep. He explained
that it is hard for us adolescents to go to sleep early because our hormone
levels are changing.

The doctor said that school schedules do not help much. He said,
“Schools shouldn’t have changed the school hours. They start so early! Classes
shouldn’t start before 9:30. Studies have found that teens who sleep longer and
start classes at a later time get better grades.”
