communication.

1|rab2016
 The language is largely accurate..
 Simple structure sentences are used without errors; mistakes may occur
C when more sophisticated structures are attempted.

sufficiently developed to achieve precision.
 Punctuation is generally accurate although errors may occur in more complex
13 - 15 uses.
 Spelling is generally accurate for common vocabulary.
 Written in paragraphs which show some unity although links may be absent
or inappropriate at times.
 The style and tone maybe generally appropriate for a formal student-principal
communication.

 The language is sufficiently accurate for meaning to come through.

 There will be patches of clarity, accurate language, particularly when simple
D vocabulary and structures are used.

 Vocabulary is limited and either too simple to convey precise meaning or is
imperfectly understood.
 Simple words may be spelt correctly but frequent mistakes in spelling and
7-9 punctuation make reading the script difficult.
 Paragraphs lack unity. Links are incorrectly used. There may be errors of
sentence separation and punctuation.
 The style and tone are unlikely to be appropriate or a report. It may not show
understanding of the detailed requirements of the task.

 Meaning is fairly clear but the incidence of errors is high and definitely
U(i) impedes the reading.
 A script at this level will have few accurate structures.
 Vocabulary may not extend beyond a simple range of words that are
inadequate to express intended shades of meaning.
4–6  There may be frequent spelling errors.
 Punctuation will sometimes be used correctly but sentence separation errors
may occur.
 Paragraphs may not be used, or if used, show a lack of planning.
 The style and tone are inappropriate.

2|rab2016
 Sense will be decipherable but some of the errors will be multiple in nature
requiring the reader to re-read and reorganize before meaning becomes
U (ii) clear.
 Whole sections may make little or no sense. They are unlikely to be more
2-3 than one or two accurate sentences. The content is incomprehensible but its
style and tone are hidden by the density of errors.

 Scripts in this category are most entirely impossible to recognize as pieces of

U (iii) English.
 Whole sections may make no sense at all or are copied from the task.
0-1  Award ‘1’ mark I some sense can be obtained.
 The mark ‘0’should only be awarded if the talk makes no sense at all from the
beginning to the end.

How Teenagers Can Quit Smoking Title/topic
By Doli Dollah Writer’s name

I attended a talk on ‘How Teenagers Can Quit Smoking last 0pening

weekend. A reknowned speaker and therapist Dr Jalil Jalal gave the talk.
It was very informative and I would like to share some tips with you.

If you are a smoker, it is time you quit. Do you know why smoking is
bad for you? Smoking can cause cancer in the long run. But there are C1
many immediate effects that you must be aware of. The immediate
devastating effects are chronic cough and reduced stamina in doing C2, C3
your work. It also gives you bad breath and yellow teeth. Aside from C4
that it makes your clothes smell stinky. Some of you smoke to change C5
identity or persona. You may want to feel more macho, sexy and
independent. Some of you may even feel grown-up when you smoke. But C6
whatever the reason, it is time to stop. You might feel independent or
grown-up but in actual truth you are addicted to smoking and thus it will be
harder to quit.

5|rab2016
How can you overcome this problem? First, if your friends are the
main cause, say no to those who offer you to smoke. If your parents
smoke, it is not necessary for you to follow. In fact, you can even C7
advise them to quit smoking. Develop a strong will power to stop C8
smoking. Concentrate on studying and do not let your mind wonder. Get C9
involved in extracurricular activities to keep your mind off smoking.
These facts are not new to you but they may serve as reminders. C10
Those who smoke not only endanger you life but also make the lives of your
loved ones unhappy because in the long run, they will see you suffer due to Closing
smoking. So please stop right now.

I remember you telling me the last time we met that the crime Opening
rate in your neighbourhood is increasing. I’ve just been to a talk last according to
week about how to prevent crimes in the neighbourhood. I would like to question
share what I have learnt from the talk with you.
First, keep all doors and gates securely locked with padlocks. If
you have automatic gate that would be better. Make sure you do not
allow any sales persons into your house compound. You can talk to them
without opening the gate. All your doors and windows must be grilled so
that it will be difficult for a thief to enter the premise.
I know you and your family love going out especially on holidays.
Therefore make sure you leave some lights on. By doing this, the thieves Body
will think there are people in the house. You could also inform your
neighbours or the patrolling police that you will be away for many days.
If you can afford it, install an alarm system in your house. Never
keep any valuables such as jewellery in the house. You should keep them
in the bank instead. You have a big compound with fruit trees, so take
away any ladders used for climbing the trees. They will give ideas to the
thieves to break into your house.
I hope these tips could help you to prevent any break ins. I think
that is all for now. Till we meet again. Send my regards to all at home. Closing
Bye.

Title: Charity Run 2013 Title

SMK Bukit Tinggi annual Charity Run for 2013 was held on 18th Opening
September. The event was originally scheduled to start at 6.30 a.m.
but the flag-off only took place at 7 a.m. due to the rain. Like the
past years, the run started and ended at the school field.

The purpose of this year's Charity Run is to raise funds for the local
orphanage. Participants were charged a RM15 registration fee that Body
includes some mineral water and a t-shirt.

The entire route of the run was 10.5 kilometres. A total of 578
students throughout the school took part in the event. Nur Amalina
from Form 5B came out first, followed by Boon Keat from 5A,
second and Ganesh Lingam from 4D, third. The winners were
presented with medals and hampers by the President of the Parent –
Teacher Association, Datuk Rahim Mahmud.

While the event was successfully completed, there were some

incidents that occurred during the run. Two participants lost their
belongings. Both of them left their bags at the side of the field
despite being repeatedly reminded by the organisers not to do so.
Participants were advised to leave their belongings in the hall next Body
to the field where there were students on duty. Fortunately, they
only lost small amounts of money and some snacks.

Apart from that, some participants also sustained minor injuries.

This was due to the fact that they did not do warm-up exercise
before running. As a result, they suffered cramps halfway through
the run. They were immediately attended to by the medical team on
standby and recovered after a short rest.

From this year's event, it is clear that there are still room for
improvement in the organisation of this event. For example, more
refreshment stands should be made available throughout the course
of the run. This will ensure that participants are well hydrated while
24 | r a b 2 0 1 6
running.

Besides, more volunteers should be brought in to control and direct Closing

traffic where the route meets with the main street. This will ensure
the safety of the participants as well as the safety of road users
passing by the area.

That is all for today. I hope you have benefited from my talk on
(topic of the talk) . Thank you for listening.

Sample Talk :
Good morning to our beloved principal, Puan Atri Zaharah, teachers and Greeting
my fellow students. My name is Anis Suraya from form 5 Jujur.

Last week I have attended a seminar on how to raise awareness of Introduction

consumerism among students. It was a very enlightening one for me.
Today, I, as the president of the Consumer Club of our school, would like to
share with all of you what you should do as a consumer.

The first is to think before you buy. You should buy what you really Body
need. This would avoid wastage. Second, do not be carried away by C1
advertisements. Advertisements are used to persuade people to buy C2
30 | r a b 2 0 1 6
things. They exaggerated the uses of the products. As a consumer, you
need to be objective when buying a product and not be influenced by the
advertisements.
C3
You should compare the prices of the products. You should always go
to many shops to compare the prices of the same products. This would help
you to save money and being cheated of the actual price. Always read the C5
labels for ingredients. Some of the things used in a product might not be
good to some people. It might cause allergic reaction.
body
Check the expiry date of a product especially for perishable goods C6
for example bread and cakes. You do not want to buy things you cannot
consume. Next you should make a complaint if the product is faulty. C7
Instead of exercising your right, many would buy a new one to replace the
faulty one. The reason is simple, you do not have time to do so. Lastly is
lodging a report to the Consumer Association if you are cheated. The C8
Consumer Association would help you in getting your right if you do not
know how.

That is all for now. I hope you have benefited from my talk on Ending
consumerism. Thank you for listening. Topic
