Preschool – Unit 5 – Lesson 4

Aids: Monkey, ball, Unit 5 flash chards,

Objectives:

1. To tell the story with the Big Story Book, encouraging the children's participation
during the second telling
2. To watch and join in with the animated story and the song on the DVD
3. To remember the names of fruits: apple, orange, cherries, plum, pear

4. To present and practise the story song, remember some words: pick, help, water
5. To consolidate the story through several Class Book activities and a class
performance

6. To present and practise fruit vocabulary


7. To develop the children's knowledge through English and to motivate them
through project work.

Vocabulary:

Fruit: apple, orange, banana, cherries, plum, pear


Questions: Can I help you? I'm helping!
Nouns and verbs: Lunch box, fruit salad, water, help, flowers, pick
Sentences: Thank you,
I've got (an apple)

Activity Time
Introduction:

- T greets class by saying Hello. Students say hello individually.

- Converse with students in basic conversation. Ask basic questions (How are
you, what is your name, what color is this) 10
Mins
- Go through class rules on PowerPoint presentation

- Sing 2 songs. (Baby shark, hello song, Hokey Pokey, one little finger)

Vocabulary:

- T goes through PowerPoint. Students say hello to characters, recap colors


and actions, then practice new fruit vocabulary. 20

- Practice: Ask students to speak individually. Ensure all students can say
selected words. If there is one word that students find difficult, stress the

pronunciation and perform some activities to make it easier for students.


(eg, divide each syllable and pronounce one at a time before gradually
putting the word together. Ask students how to spell individual words.

- Introduce sentence structure: “I’ve got a _____”. Show different fruit


vocabulary and ask students to say the full sentence including the fruit.

- Watch: The annoying orange

Activity 1:

- Play pass the ball game: Students sit in a circle and one student is handed a
ball. When students hear the music, they must pass the ball around the
circle. When the music stops, the student holding the ball must stop. On the 15
TV will be a picture of vocabulary they have studied. They must say the Mins
vocabulary out loud. Then teacher continues the music and repeats with a
different student

Activity 2:

- Musical chairs: First ask students to help move their chairs in the correct
position, then ask all students to sit down. Ensure there are enough seats 10
for all students to sit down. Instruct students to stand up and walk around Mins
the chairs clockwise when the music is playing. Teacher will place flashcards
from the unit on different chairs. When the music stops, students will race
to sit down. The student left standing up will be out and must answer a
question from the teacher (eg what color is this). Students sitting on a
flashcard will then be asked to identity the name of the flashcard.

Break 5mins
Activity 3:

- Fruit color in: Teacher hands out coloring in worksheet and asks student to
color them in. As students color, teacher and TA’s converse with students, 15
asking them what item of clothes they are coloring and what color they are mins
using. Play music in the background to make the atmosphere joyful.

- Writing practice: Teacher hands out writing worksheet and guide students 10
how to complete. If student’s do not finish, they can do so at home. mins

Give students writing sheet as part of their homework.
