Kong et.al [1]A test method for evaluating and predicting the thermal performance of
thermosyphon Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) system was proposed. The evaluating
mathematical model of SDHW system was developed based on the two-node theory - a SDHW
system was divided into the solid part and the fluid part. By combining the dynamic energy
conservation equations of the solid part and the fluid part, the evaluating mathematical model of
SDHW system was derived. The measured mean fluid temperature in the storage tank was
compared to the predicted mean fluid temperature. The annual thermal performance prediction of
the system with two draw off load conditions at different daily hot water consumptions was also
carried out. Walaa Mousa Hashim et.al [2] discussed performance solar water heating for flat plate
collector. The system of thermal performance designed for dimensions 125 × 110 cm and width 25
cm, in such a way that fluid can flow from inlet to outlet through pipe with longer is 15.9 m,
designed as lope square pattern, used the water as fluid flow working with two different flow rate
(5.3 and 6.51 L/min). The result shows that the water at flow rate 5.3 L/min heated more than the
flow rate 6.51 L/min, which causes the higher efficiency and effectiveness of the collector, so the
maximum temperature was (51.4oC and 49oC) at flow rate (5.3 L/min and 6.51 L/min)
respectively. Sivakumar et.al, [3] discussed improving the performance of a flat plate solar energy
collector by changing the design parameters of the number of riser tubes and the arrangement of
riser tubes in zig-zag pattern from the existing flat plat collector system. Experiments were
conducted using copper tube in header and riser with different dimensions. The performance
shows that the efficiency is 59.09% when increasing the number of riser tubes and its 62.90% in
the zig-zag arrangement (Z- Configuration) of the riser tube. Now-a-days this system produces
higher efficiency than the existing conventional flat plate collector.
Siddharth Suman et.al, [4] discussed a review of advancements made in the field of solar thermal
technology with a focus on techniques employed for its performance enhancement. It also covers
the description of different types of solar collectors to facilitate the systematic understanding of
solar thermal technology and the novel modifications realized in each category of solar collectors
have been high lighted to promote the use of solar energy in routine activities. Jaisankar et.al, [5]
discussed the efficiency of solar thermal conversion of extensive works on improving the thermal
efficiency of solar water heaters resulted in techniques to improve the convective heat transfer.
Passive technique has been used to augment convective heat transfer. These techniques when
adopted in solar water heaters proved that the overall thermal performance improved significantly.
This paper reviews various techniques to enhance the thermal efficiency in solar water heater. In
addition to this, a detailed discussion on the limitations of existing research, research gap and
suggested possible modifications is made. Ghodbane,et.al [6]This work presents a design and an
experimental study of a linear Fresnel reflector solar with trapezoidal cavity. Various combinations
of reflecting mirrors were tried to achieve hot temperature at the concentration line. The absorber
tube was made of copper; it was painted with black paint and covered by selective suitable surface.
The quantity of heat available to the absorber tubes was evaluated and compared with 7, 9 and 11
mirrors. Water temperature reached a maximum of 74 °C with eleven reflective mirrors. The
maximum value of the thermal efficiency is 29.21%. The results obtained are very encouraging for
using linear Fresnelconcentrator in the solar fields allocated to the domestics and industrial water-
heaters.
Sadhishkumar , Balusamy [7] Conversion of solar energy into thermal energy is the easiest and
most used method. The efficiency of solar thermal conversion is around 70% but solar electrical
direct conversion system has an efficiency of only 17%..This review paper summarizes the
previous works on solar water heating systems with various heat transfer enhancement techniques
include collector design, collector tilt angle, coating of pipes, fluid flow rate, thermal insulation,
integrated collector storage, thermal energy storage, use of phase change materials, and insertion
of twisted tapes. This paper also discussed the methods to optimize and simulate the solar water
heating systems to understand flow and thermal behavior in solar collectors that would lead to the
improvement of the thermal performance of solar collectors. Kulkarni et.al, [8] An Innovative
design of solar water heater flat plate collector is developed and tested. Due to this FRP coating
thermal conductivity of tank material and night heat losses get reduced. In conventional hot water
storage tank night temperature losses is found to be 90C while in modified FRP coating tank with
partition night temperature losses is found to be 40C.
Balaji et.al, [9] This paper experimentally investigates the performance of an absorber tube with
heat transfer enhancer in solar flat plate water heater. Two types of heat transfer enhancers,
namely, rod heat transfer enhancer and tube heat transfer enhancer, are used herein and compared
with each other. The efficiency, heat transfer coefficient and pumping power for flat plate solar
collector were analyzed, and it was found that, the rod heat transfer enhancer provides higher heat
transfer with a small increase in pumping power than tube heat transfer enhancer and plain tube
flat plate solar collector. The maximum increase in pumping power is 1.081 and 1.044 times
higher for rod and tube heat transfer enhancers respectively, compared to plain tube solar collector.
Himangshu Bhowmik ,Ruhul Amin, [10] This paper introduces a new technology to improve the
performance of the solar thermal collectors. The solar reflector used here with the solar collector to
increase the reflectivity of the collector. Thus, the reflector concentrates both direct and diffuse
radiation of the sun toward the collector. To maximize the intensity of incident radiation, the
reflector was allowed to change its angle with daytime. The radiations coming from the sun’s
energy were converted into heat, and then this heat was transferred to the collector fluid, water. A
prototype of a solar water heating system was constructed and obtained the improvement of the
collector efficiency around 10% by using the reflector. Thus, the present solar water heating
systems having the best thermal performance compared to the available systems.Kazy Fayeen
Shariar,et.al, [11] discussed CECT consists of spherical collector trough having a reflective bottom
o
surface, five evenly distributed lenses, 30 apart from each other, on the upper half of the sphere to
eliminate the sun tracker and hexagonal glasses to make the environment closed and impose
greenhouse effect on the system. The CECT acts like a heat trap and keeps the heat inside the
chamber for a longer period of time which basically lessens the heat declination. The reflective
surface and lenses concentrate the sun light directly on the fluid pipe. In this paper novel design
has been proposed to improve the overall performance of solar collector troughs.
