IMPLEMENTING RULES AND REGULATIONS IN THE CONDUCT OF

CBAA DAYS 2019: ACADEMIC LEAGUE (Literary Events)

GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. All participants must be bona fide students of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy for the First semester,
Academic Year 2019-2020.

1.1. In cases of doubt; wherein there is evidence on the contrary of a student being an official enrollee, the student must
submit his/her Certificate of Registration for the First Semester; Academic Year 2019-2020 to the SEC Literary
Committee for verification.

2. The following will be the competing teams for all of the events:

2.1. Team 1 (Manobo)


2.2. Team 2 (Aeta)
2.3. Team 3 (Higaonon)
2.4. Team 4 (Badjao)

3. The teams will compete for the following events:

3.1. Whiz Kids


3.2. Human Text Twist
3.3. Chain Storytelling
3.4. Spelling Wizard
3.5. Write it Down!
3.6. Speak Up!
3.7. Spoken Poetry: Filipino Category
3.8. Spoken Poetry: Visayan Category

4. The names of the participants with their respective events must be submitted to the SEC Literary Committee on or before
October 2, 2019, Wednesday, 11:59 PM.

4.1. The list of the participants must be submitted either in an encoded or handwritten form. Handwritten form shall require
a handwriting that can be easily understood by the SEC Literary Committee.
4.2. In the case of a participant’s withdrawal from a particular event; the Team Leader shall submit the name of the
replacement for the withdrawing participant on or before October 3, 2019, Thursday, 12:00 NN.

5. The SEC Literary Committee will be using Ranking System in determining the winner of a particular event.

5.1. The CHAMPION/FIRST PLACER shall be ranked as 1.


5.2. The SECOND PLACER shall be ranked as 2.
5.3. The THIRD PLACER shall be ranked as 3.
5.4. The FOURTH PLACER/DISQUALIFIED shall be ranked as 4.

6. Presenters are advised to be at the designated venue fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled time of the Event.

6.1. In the case of late participant/s; (Given that the event had already started when the participant/s arrived); he/she shall
be deducted with five (5) percent (per judge), of the overall percentage for said event
6.2. In the case where late participant/s; (arrive in the middle of a performance from another team); they will automatically
be the last to perform; the presenter/s shall also have a deduction of ten (10) percent (per judge) of the overall
percentage for the particular event.
6.3. In cases of on-the-spot/non-judging events, i.e. Spelling Wizard and Whiz Kids, he/she shall be disqualified and shall
automatically be ranked last on the particular event.

7. Upon arrival, participants shall immediately report to the Facilitator/s for further briefing and instructions. They must present
their IDs and must fill up the attendance sheet provided.

7.1. The participant (in said event) must be the one to present himself/herself to the Facilitator/s and affix his/her signature
in the attendance sheet.

8. Once the event has started, no participants are allowed to leave the venue.

8.1. In cases wherein there is an important matter that requires immediate attention, participant/s are permitted to leave
provided that; the event hasn’t started yet and he/she shall be back before the event will begin. Failure to comply will
incur deductions or disqualification for a particular event.

9. Use of mobile phones and other electronic devices is prohibited unless needed and allowed by the facilitator/s.

9.1. There shall be no deductions on the overall percentage but it will be strictly implemented during the event only.
9.2. Before the event will start, the SEC Literary Committee shall collect the mobile phones and electronic devices, they
shall be returned right after performing, for judging events, and after the event for the non- judging events.

10. All concerns, clarifications, or protests shall be handled and settled to the SEC Literary Committee.

10.1. Concerns, clarifications and protests must be raised right after the event.
10.2. Concerns, clarifications and protests will be given verdict by the SEC Grievance Committee with the presence of the
SEC Literary Committee and the Team Leaders.

11. Basis for the time shall be PST or Philippine Standard Time.

ULTIMATE WHIZ KIDS

1. Each competing team shall send two (2) groups consisting of four (4) participants.

1.1. Participant must be in university uniform attire.

1.1.1. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent per participant of the
overall-percentage.

2. Participants are not allowed to bring anything during the competition except their own pens.

2.1. The participants will be provided with an illustration board, eraser, chalk and extra sheet of paper.
2.2. In cases where the participant/s intend to bring anything on his/her designated seat, commodities such as water
and/or handkerchief, he is allowed to do so provided that he will have asked permission to the Facilitator beforehand/ and
have been given consent.

3. Complaints shall be raised before the next question is revealed.

3.1. Complaints raised after the next question is revealed will no longer be entertained.
3.2. To avoid too much time delay with regards to questions/protests raised, it is to the Facilitator/s or the SEC Literary
Committee’s discretion to provide answers/clarifications right after the question/protest has been raised.

4. Teams can write their answer as soon as the quizmaster starts reading the question.

5. There shall be three rounds: The Opening Trial and The Final Wave.

THE OPENING TRIAL


 The Opening Trial shall consist of 15 multiple choice questions.
 Questions shall cover general knowledge, business trivia and current events.
 For every question, the teams shall be provided with two possible answers and a free-choice to write the answer which
they think is correct. One or none of the specific choices may be correct. It is thus the discretion of the teams to come up
with the right answer either by choosing one among the two choices given or writing their own answer equivalent to five
(5) points. However, a correct answer taken from the choices provided is only worth three (3) points.
 Teams will be given ten seconds to answer each question.
 Answers should be reduced to writing before the allotted time has elapsed. The boards must be raised immediately
thereafter. Violation of this said provision shall make the answer of the team invalid.
 Wrong spelling is definitely wrong.
 The top six (6) teams garnering the highest score shall proceed to the next round.
 In case of a tie, tie breaker questions shall be asked until the deadlock is broken. Tie Breaker question/s shall have no
bearing on the scores of the contestants. The first Team who raises their board and gets the correct answer shall qualify to
the next round.

GAME-CHANGER: ACCEPT OR REJECT

 Some questions will require teams to decide whether they will accept or reject to answer. If the team chooses to accept,
they get double points if they answer correctly; otherwise, they get double deduction. If the team chooses to reject, they
will not be allowed to answer the certain question. The team has to decide before the question will be read. However, the
category of the question will be announced. For easier tracking, the team has to raise a white cloth (to be provided by the
SEC) if they accept to answer.

THE FINAL WAVE


 Scores shall revert back to zero.
 There will be five stations. In every station, there is one question to be answered by the team.
 A team could earn a score ranging from 4 to 20 if the team’s answer belongs to the top 10 possible answers. If the team’s
answer is not on the top 10 list but belongs to the top 20, the team earns 2 points.

Scoring shall be:


 Top 1 20 pts
 Top 2 18 pts
 Top 3 16 pts
 Top 4 14 pts
 Top 5 12 pts
 Top 6 10 pts
 Top 7 8 pts
 Top 8 6 pts
 Top 9 and 10 4 pts
 Top 11-20 2 pts

 The top three (3) teams garnering the highest score shall be awarded as the Ultimate Whiz Kids Champion, 1st
Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up, respectively.
 In case of a tie, tie breaker questions shall be asked until the deadlock is broken. Tie Breaker question/s shall have no
bearing on the scores of the contestants. The first Team who raises their board and gets the correct answer shall qualify to
the next round.

GAME-CHANGER: PUZZLE TROUBLE

 In every station, there will be a puzzle to be solved before the team could proceed to the question. The team is only given a
maximum of 5 minutes to solve the puzzle. If the team is able to solve the puzzle, their score for answering the question
will be doubled. If they will get the wrong answer, their score will remain as is.

HUMAN TEXT TWIST

1. Each competing team shall send one (1) group consisting of thirteen (13) participants.

1.1. Participants must be in their university uniform attire.

1.1.1. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent per participant of the
overall-percentage.

2. Each member of the team shall be given one (1) bond paper with one (1) letter printed on it.

2.1. The English alphabet will be used during the game.


2.2. Only the twelve (12) participants will be given a piece paper that will represent as their letter and the thirteenth
(13th) player shall serve as the leader who will shuffle his/her members to form a letter.
2.3. Words to be used are business terms.

3. The leader shall be the only person to speak during the game.

3.1. The leader shall be the one to give further instructions on the mechanics of the game.

4. The team shall be given points according to the length of words formed.

4.1. Ten (10) points shall be given to the word if taken correctly.
4.2. An eleven-lettered and a ten-lettered word shall be given eight (8) points.

4.3. A nine-lettered and an eight-lettered word shall be given six (6) points.
4.4. A seven-lettered word and a six-lettered word shall be given four (4) points.
4.5. A five-lettered word shall be given three (3) points.
4.6. A four-lettered word shall be given two (2) points.
4.7. A three-lettered word shall be given one (1) point each.

5. Each team shall be given three (3) minutes to assemble words.

6. The competing team with the highest overall score shall be declared as CHAMPION/FIRST PLACER.

6.1. The competing team with the second (2nd) highest overall score shall be declared as SECOND PLACER.
6.2. The competing team with the third (3rd) highest overall score shall be declared as THIRD PLACER.
6.3. The competing team with the fourth (4th) highest overall score shall be declared as FOURTH PLACER.

7. In the case of a tie, competing teams shall enter into a tie-breaker round.

CHAIN STORYTELLING

1. Each competing team shall send one (1) group consisting of five (5) participants.

1.1. Contestants must be in their university uniform attire.

1.1.3. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent per participant of the
overall-percentage of said event.

2. A narrative shall be provided by the Facilitator/s. Participants shall be given five (5) minutes of thinking- time prior to their
turn.

2.1. The narrative shall be about “everything under the sun”, which means that all possible topics shall be given and it’s
up to the participants on how to continue the story.

2.2. There shall be no other venue for thinking time but the backstage of the Function House or the Bandstand if in case
the performing participants are too loud and given that it is not in use.

3. Speakers should only speak within the allotted time.

3.1. Each speaker shall be given one (1) minute and thirty (30) seconds. However, the last speaker shall be given
another thirty (30) seconds, for a total of two (2) minutes to wrap the story up.
3.2. The facilitator shall raise a cardboard to indicate that a minute has already passed. A red flag shall be raised to indicate
that the speaker’s allotted time is over.
3.3. Overtime for each speaker shall incur a deduction of one percent (1%) of the overall percentage.

4. Deductions shall be made by the SEC Tabulation Committee concurred with the members duly represented by the competing
teams.

5. The criteria for judging are as follows:

5.1. Delivery of the speech which will be forty five percent (45%) of the overall percentage.
5.2. Creativity of the story which will be thirty percent (30%) of the overall percentage.
5.3. Relevance to the narrative which will be twenty percent (20%) of the overall percentage.
5.4. Audience impact which will be five percent (5%) of the overall percentage.

6. The decision of the judges shall be final and irrevocable.

SPELLING WIZARD

1. Each competing team shall send one (2) participants.

1.1. Contestants must be in their university uniform attire.

1.1.1. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent (per participant) of the
overall-percentage.

2. Participants are not allowed to bring anything during the competition with the exception of their own pens.

2.1. The participants will be provided with an illustration board, eraser, chalk and extra sheet of paper.
2.2. In the case where the participants will bring commodities on his/her designated seat such as water and/or
handkerchief, he/she is allowed to do so provided that he/she asked permission to the Facilitator/s beforehand and have
been given consent.

3. Complaints shall be raised before the next word is revealed.

3.1. Complaints raised after the next word is revealed will no longer be entertained.
3.2. To avoid too much time delay with regards to questions/protests raised, it is to the Facilitator/s or the SEC Literary
Committee’s discretion to provide answers/clarifications right after the question/protest has been raised.

4. This event shall be comprised of three (3) rounds: Easy, Average and Difficult.

4.1. Easy Round

4.1.1. There shall be ten (10) multiple choice questions for this round.
4.1.2. Each correct answer is worth one (1) point.
4.1.3. Questions shall be answered within ten (10) seconds only.

4.2. Average Round

4.2.1. There shall be ten (10) questions for this round.


4.2.2. Each correct answer is worth three (3) points.
4.2.3. Questions shall be answered within twenty (20) seconds only.

4.3. Difficult Round

4.3.1. There shall be ten (10) questions for this round.


4.3.2. Each correct answer is worth five (5) points.
4.3.4. Questions shall be answered within thirty (30) seconds only.

5. There are actual game mechanics that shall be revealed and read only during the contest proper.

5.1. The SEC Literary Committee and the Facilitator/s will be choosing what dictionary to use for reference purposes/

6. In the case of a tie, tie breaker questions shall have five (5) questions.

6.1. Tie breaker questions shall have no bearing on the scores of the contestants.
6.2. The two (2) participants will still be playing individually and scores will be accumulated right after the fifth (5th)
question.

7. The competing team who will garner higher accumulated points will be declared as winner and shall gain the higher place.

7.1. The highest accumulated points shall be declared as CHAMPION/FIRST PLACE.


7.2. The second (2nd) highest accumulated points shall be declared as SECOND PLACER.
7.3. The third (3rd) highest accumulated points shall be declared as THIRD PLACER.
7.4. The fourth (4th) highest accumulated points shall be declared as FOURTH PLACER.

WRITE IT DOWN!

1. Each competing team shall send one (1) participant.

1.1. Contestants must be in their university uniform attire.

1.1.1. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent (per participant) of the
overall-percentage.

2. Each participant shall be given a control number upon registration to avoid biased judging.

3. Participants shall be given seven (7) sheets of bond paper.

4. The participants shall bring their own ball-point pen.

4.1. Black ballpoint pen shall be used and no other color shall be used in writing.
4.2. The use of signature pen, fountain pen, and pencil are strictly prohibited.

5. The essay should be in English language with a minimum of three hundred (300) words and a maximum of five hundred
(500) words.

5.1. Words must be written on one face only and no back portion of the paper shall be utilized.

6. A common theme shall be provided by the facilitator/s and the participants shall be given one hour (1) and thirty (30)
minutes to draft and finalize their essays.

6.1. The common theme shall be “everything under the sun”, which means that all possible topics shall be given and it’s
up to the participants on how to elaborate, and expand the idea through writing.
6.2. Entries shall be submitted within the allotted time.

6.2.1. Failure to do so shall incur the following deductions (per judge) of the overall percentage:

6.2.1.1. One percent (1%) deduction from the first (1st) minute up to the fifth (5th) minute.
6.2.1.2. Two percent (2%) deduction from the sixth (6th) minutes up to tenth (10th) minute.
6.2.1.3. Three percent (3%) deduction from the eleventh (11th) minute onwards.

7. Participants are not allowed to mark their work with anything that may cause the identification of their competing team except
for their given entry number.

7.1. Only the title, introduction, body, conclusion and entry number shall be seen on the paper of the participant.

7.1.1. Name, nickname, or any form of possible identification of the participant shall not be seen on the paper.
7.1.2. Any drawing, doodle, or art shall not be seen in any of the paper and are discouraged to be written on the
paper.
7.1.3. Failure to follow the particular rule shall incur a deduction of one percent (1%) per judge of the overall
percentage.

8. All entries will be automatically considered a property of the Student Executive Council. The Student Executive Council
reserves all rights to each entry submitted.

9. Grievances must be raised right after the submission of the last participant. A grace period of fifteen minutes (15) is given to
raise such grievances. After the fifteen (15) minutes grace period, the Facilitator will keep the essays for delivery to judges.

10. Deductions shall be made by the SEC Tabulation Committee concurred with the members duly represented by the competing
teams.

11. The criteria for judging are as follows:

11.1. Relevance to the theme which will be thirty percent (30%) of the overall percentage.
11.2. Style and creativity which will be thirty percent (30%) of the overall percentage.
11.3. Structure and organization which will be twenty percent (20%) of the overall percentage.
11.4. Grammar which will be ten percent (10%) of the overall percentage.
11.5. Technicality which will be ten percent (10%) of the overall percentage.

12. The decision of the judges shall be final and irrevocable.

SPEAK UP!

1. Each competing team shall send one (1) participant.

1.1. Participants must be in their university uniform attire.

1.1.3. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent (per participant) of the
overall-percentage.

2. A common theme shall be provided by the facilitators and the participants shall be given five (5) minutes of thinking-time
prior to their turn.

2.1. The common theme shall be “everything under the sun”, which means that all possible topics shall be given and it’s
up to the participants on how to deliver speech in relation to the theme.
2.2. There shall be no other venue for thinking time but only the backstage of the Function House or the Bandstand if in
case the performing participants are too loud and given that it is not in use

3. Speakers should only speak within the allotted time.

3.1. Each speaker shall be given five (5) minutes to deliver his/her speech.
3.2. The facilitator shall raise a cardboard to indicate that a minute has already passed. A red flag shall be raised to indicate
that the speaker’s allotted time is over.
3.3. Overtime for each speaker shall incur a deduction of two percent (2%) of the overall percentage.

4. Deductions shall be made by the SEC Tabulation Committee concurred with the members duly represented by the competing
teams.

5. The criteria for judging are as follows:


5.1. Relevance to the theme which will be fifty percent (50%) of the overall percentage.
5.2. Diction and projection of the speaker which will be thirty percent (30%) of the overall percentage.
5.3. Voice quality of the speaker which will be twenty percent (20%) of the overall percentage.

5. The decision of the judges shall be final and irrevocable.

SPOKEN POETRY: FILIPINO AND VISAYAN CATEGORY

1. Each competing team shall send one (1) participant for each category.

1.1. Participant must be in university uniform attire.

1.1.1. Failure to follow prescribed dress code shall incur a deduction of one (1) percent (per participant) of the
overall-percentage.

2. The participant shall have the liberty to make their own contest piece.

2.1. The theme of the poem could be romance, family, education, religion, or any other theme as long as it is relevant and
appropriate.
2.2. Profanities (vulgar words, insults, verbal abuse and hurtful words) are strictly prohibited.

2.2.1. Failure to comply with this specific rule shall incur a deduction of one percent (1%) (per judge) of the
overall percentage.

2.3. The poem must have a minimum of three hundred fifty (350) words.

2.3.1. Failure to comply with this specific rule shall incur a deduction of one percent (1%) (per judge) of the
overall percentage.

2.4. All portions of the writing must be original.

2.4.1. Submission of a plagiarized work, in whole or in part, is not allowed


2.4.2. Failure to comply with this specific rule shall incur a deduction of one percent (1%) (per judge) of the
overall percentage.

3. The Participant should only speak within the allotted time.

3.1. Each speaker shall be given five to eight (5-8) minutes to deliver his/her poem.
3.2. The facilitator/s shall raise a cardboard to indicate that a minute has already passed. A red flag shall be raised to
indicate that the speaker’s allotted time is over.
3.3. Overtime for each speaker shall incur a deduction of two percent (2%) of the overall percentage.

4. Deductions shall be made by the SEC Tabulation Committee concurred with the members duly represented by the competing
teams.

5. The criteria for judging are as follows:

5.1. Content of the speech which will be twenty five percent (25%) of the overall percentage.
5.2. Overall delivery and performance, such as posture, gesture, diction, eye contact and projection, will be twenty five
percent (25%) of the overall percentage.
5.3. Language, such as repetition and rhyming, will be twenty percent (20%) of the overall percentage.
5.4. Content of the poem which will be twenty percent (20%) of the overall percentage.
5.5. Audience impact which will be ten percent (10%) of the overall percentage.

6. The decision of the judges shall be final and irrevocable.
