CERTIFICATE COURSES IN
GEMMOLOGY/GEOLOGY

Admission to certificate courses (part - time) in Gemmology and Geology conducted

by the Department of Earth Resources Engineering, University of Moratuwa:
Academic year 2015/2016
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission to the above
courses.
Duration of the course : 02 Years (one day per week)
Educational requirements: G.C.E. (0/L) in at least 6 subjects or equivalent in not
more than two attempts. A pass in English Language
will be an added qualification.
Gemmology
course consists o(the following sections
Testing and Identification/ Crystallography/ Lapidary/ Colour grading/
Valuation/ Marketing/ Enhancements of gem stones/ Diamond grading.
Those who obtain Distinction or Credit passes in the Gemmology course will receive
exemption from the preliminary examination of the Gemmological Association of
Great Britain (F.G.A.).

(A gemmology toolkit & a set of basic gemstones are provided to each student free of
charge)

Course Fees: First year - Rs. 23,550.00 Second year Rs. 15,750.00

Geology
course consists o(the following sections
Physical and General Geology/ Petrology/ Mineralogy/ Mineral Exploration/
Mining/ Engineering Geology/Environmental Geology/ Remote Sensing & GIS.

Course Fees: First year - Rs. 16,050.00 Second year Rs. 15,750.00

The courses are conducted in English medium.

Preferences will be given to candidates employed in related fields. Application forms
and relevant particulars can be obtained from Course Co-ordinator (Part-time
courses), Department of Earth Resources Engineering, University of Moratuwa,
on or before 20.02.2015 by calling over personally or by sending a self addressed
stamped envelope of 22.5 x 10 em in size.

Duly completed application forms should be sent by registered post to reach the
Course Co-ordinator( Part-time courses), Department of Earth Resources
Engineering, University of Moratuwa, on or before 27.02.2015.
