WATER BIRTH

What are the pro of giving birth in water?

1. Working with gravity
Getting into a comfortable upright position may be easier if you’re using a birth
pool. Being upright gives you the advantage of working with gravity as your baby is
born. It may be easier to push your baby out in the water than in air. You'll be supported
by the water and can use the sides of the pool for extra support.

What are the con of giving birth in water?

2. Baby starting to breathe under water
You may be worried that your baby will inhale water with his first breath if he
is born in a birth pool. Healthy babies, however, don’t take their first breath until nerves
in their face, mouth and nose have been stimulated by contact with air and a change in
temperature. Babies born in water are protected by the "dive reflex". Your baby will
instinctively close his airway, stopping him from breathing in water. Your midwife will
also monitor your baby during your labour to make sure he's getting enough oxygen.
There’s no evidence that babies born in water suffer from breathing problems any more
than babies born in air.
Experts believe that babies are only at risk of inhaling water if:

1. Part of the baby is exposed to air before his whole body is born, overriding his
dive reflex
2. Their oxygen supply via the placenta is affected in some way
Your caregiver will guide you to make sure you don't bring your baby's head to the
surface before the rest of his body is born and will remind you to keep your bottom
under the water at all times until the birth. She will monitor your baby for any potential
problems.

LOTUS BIRTH
Pros :

1. Absorption of extra blood into the newborn’s body = Blood circulation

Other alleged benefits include better blood circulation for the baby as it receives the
remaining of the blood from the umbilical cord. There are also benefits from absorbing
the stem cells that are found inside the cord

Cons :

2. Increased risks from infection.

Primarily, it is a risk from an infection that concerns doctors in regular hospitals,
who are strongly discouraging women from this practice. As the umbilical cord and the
placenta essentially become dead tissue after childbirth, they begin to rot within minutes
after labor. Having a decaying organ attached to a newborn is a risk that, according to
doctors, exceeds potential benefits.

VACCINATIONS
Pros :

1. Prevents Dangerous Illnesses

All of the vaccinations that children are recommended to get prevent an illness
that was so common and contagious not very long ago. The complications from many
of these disease and sicknesses can permanently disable or even kill a child. Vaccines
have nearly eliminated them all
Cons :

2. Concerning Chemicals Inside

Many of the vaccinations, if not all of them, that are given to our children
contain some alarming chemicals inside of them. Some of these include formaldehyde,
aluminum, and thimerosal. The true long term effects of these being injected into the
body are hard to predict and study.

BABY SWADDLING
Pros :

1. CALMS THE BABY DOWN

Apart from proper sleep conditions, swaddling is known for its amazing ability to
calm the child down. Since they feel safe and warm, babies are more likely to stop
crying and relax when swaddled. This can be a great help for parents who crave a good
night’s sleep. Of course, it’s essential that the swaddle wrap material is comfy and
pleasant for a child.
Cons :

2. CIRCULATION PROBLEMS AND RASHES

As mentioned before, babies love to feel safe, warm and tucked in. Swaddling is
also a great way to prevent your baby from fidgeting in the crib. Then again, one of the
major concerns when it comes to swaddling is wrapping the child too tightly. If you’re
not careful with this, you can cut off the child’s circulation. Moreover, if the
temperature at home is warm already, baby can feel overly hot in a swaddle wrap,
which can lead to rashes and other skin problems. In order to prevent these, before you
start swaddling your child, it’s essential that you ask a professional about the proper
way of doing it.
