Abstract
This project is designed to demonstrate the technology used in metro train movement which
are used in most of the developed countries. This train is equipped with a controller, that enables
the automatic running of the train from one station to another. This proposed prototype is an
autonomous train and it eliminates the need of any driver. Thus, any human error is ruled out. In
this project ATmega328p Microcontroller has been used as CPU. As the train reaches the
destination the process repeats thus achieving the desired operation. Further the project is being
enhanced by making this system more advanced by displaying the status of the train over a larger
display unit for the convenience of the passengers. The train is designed with high safety
mechanism and eco-friendly which is the best desire outcome of our project.

Introduction
In modern days’ metro train transportation has become the most economical and safe way of
public transport system. It helps to connect two major cities and provides high speed transportation
services to the public. The unmanned metro train allows a highly secure and high performance
means of transportation. The prototype makes use of microcontroller to control the train
movements. It also controls passenger monitoring system and generates the warning signal
including automatic opening and closing of the doors.

The train runs between two predefined stations. It also provides the facility of collision
avoidance in case of two trains being on the same track. The distance between two stations without
human intervention. It provides a reset switch to the passenger which acts as an emergency. The
main idea of the approach is to allow automatic metro train system which is completely unmanned
and is precise and errorless in its operation.

Driverless automated concepts have been adopted, and the first recorded implementation was
the London underground Victoria line, opened in 1967.The duty of any train transportation system
is to provide secure, consistent, efficient and high-quality service to passengers. As many rail lines
run at or near their capacity limits, automation is often the only way to maximize the operational
performance of a train service system. Implemented on existing lines, automation is in many cases
more cost-effective than constructing new lines or extending platforms.

Literature Review
V. Sridhar, Vol. No. 01, September 2012, Automated system design for metro train. Author
has proposed the use of Automated Metro train using voice IC and radio frequency wireless card
for tracking the station data. The proposed method is mainly focused on overcoming the hole in
existing system. It is optimizing to meet the cost and power consumption requirement. Finally, the
author concluded that the system is able to track the station data using RF wireless card technology.

Y.K. Seng, Vol. No. 19, July 2009, Automated Metro –Ensuring Safety and Reliability with
Minimum Human Intervention. The Author has extensively focused on the safety and reliability in
automated metro system which cannot be compromised. The Author concluded that the approach
adopted has been proven to be successful through its implementation on several recent projects
achieving in high level of safety reliability of automated metro system

Rupal Jain, Vol. No. 04, March 2016, Auto Metro Train to Shuttle between Stations Using
Capacitive Switch cum Sensor made of Waste Material for Limiting the number of passengers. The
proposed system is an autonomous train and it eliminates the need of any driver. Whenever the
train arrives at the station, it stops automatically. The Author also explained the present of limiters
inside the Train to avoid overloading and the another approach of this project is to eliminate the
human mistakes. Thus, Author concluded that the project has successfully implemented with
eliminating human mistakes.

Proposed Methodology
Initially, design and testing of the circuit of the proposed prototype system. Proper selection
of all the components and software platform to be used. Soldering of all the hardware components
on their respective printed circuit board with the help of soldering iron. Development of code or
program for the proposed system using C Language. Compile the code with the help of software
compiler (Arduino IDE). The hex code of the program being created by the software platform is
then burnt into the flash code memory of the Microcontroller ATMega328p. Testing of the code at
various levels for the most proper working of the system.

Advantages
 Advance Mechanized metro train have the advantage of not committing human error.
 Most efficient in terms of energy consumption, space occupancy and numbers transported.

3
 High-capacity carriers – very high volumes of peak hour peak direction trips.
 Very low ground space occupation.
 It is eco-friendly, run on electricity, thus minimizing air and sound pollution.
 No Noise pollution inside the Train

Disadvantages
 More integration and construction time required.
 Modification or replacement of the signaling, controlling system etc. may more complex.

Applications
Some of the applications where the idea of Advance Mechanized Metro Train can be implemented:

 Mono Rails
The same idea of Advanced Mechanized Metro Train can be implement in Mono rail system
to eliminate human error.
 Driverless Cars
Self-driving car which means life changing technology combine with artificial intelligent
can full fill the demands of today’s lazy peoples where the only car without driver is instruct
to pick up their friends and so and so forth.
 Driverless Defense Vehicles
Armored military vehicle like tank and many other military vehicles require army personal
to drive it, where the probability risking life of Army personal is high. The idea of Advance
Mechanized Metro Train is focused on its operation without any driver. Therefore, the idea
can be implement in military vehicles for which there will be no afraid of losing our army
men.
 Garbage Trucks
The garbage truck needs human efforts to load and unload the garbage in urban area which
is the high risk of acquiring several diseases cause by vectors that lives in garbage. Such
vehicle can be made into automated which eliminate the needs of human intervention.
