Computers, computers everywhere. From your home, grocery stores, ATM machines,
schools and more. You can found it everywhere. Ever wonder why?
The truth is the computers are necessary for our daily lives, it makes life easy. Ever
wonder how?
Through computers processing work is easy just a simple clicking you can print different
pictures, you can send message or even watch a videos and listen to different music.
There are also games for fun.

What is a computer?

A computer is an electronic device that executes the instructions in a program. A

computer has four functions:

a. accepts data Input

b. processes data Processing
c. produces output Output
d. stores results Storage

Example: Printing a picture

From your Mobile Phone you can save a picture of you and your friends and
transfer it (Storage) to your Computer. Then you need to hover and click your mouse
(Input) to print your picture, then the computer will process (Processing) it then your
picture will be printed now coming from your printer and tadaaa! You can now get your
picture (Output)

Because of this, computers can work a lot of different processes and make works easy.
What makes it useful?
Fast A computer can do billions of actions per second.
Reliable Failures are usually due to human error, one way or another.
Serve as storage A computer can keep huge amounts of data

Some Basic Terms

1. Hardware – the physical parts of the computer

2. Software – it the programs or a set of instruction that tell the computer from what
to do
3. Data – this is the information, files or items that is held by the computers it can be
a picture, videos or a document
4. Information – it is what the data or document holds, it can be a message

Lesson 2
Basic Parts of Computer
In this lesson, the student will be able to familiarize some basic parts of the computers

Basic Parts of Computer

To complete the processes of the computers there are different parts working on
different processes there are the input device, processing device, output device and
storage device
This are the 5 basic parts of the computer namely:
1. System Unit – Processing and Storage Devices
2. Monitor - Output Devices
3. Keyboard - Input Device
4. Mouse - Input Device
5. USB - Input/Output Device

Parts Definition Picture

1. System Unit – All the inputs are stored,
sorted, arranged and changed
by a computer.

2. Monitor – A monitor looks like a TV

screen. It shows whatever you
type on the keyboard or draw
with the mouse

3. Keyboard – The keyboard is used for

entering data into the computer
system. It can type words,
numbers and symbols
4. Mouse – is an input device that is most
often used with a personal
computer. Moving a mouse
along a flat surface can move
the on-screen cursor to
different items on the screen.
Items can be moved or
selected by pressing the
mouse buttons (called clicking).
5. USB – A small removable device
used to store data and can be
transfer to different computers
