Global Citizenship
From Public Support to Active Participation

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. The citizenship theories mentioned (Liberal, Communautarist, Republican,
Neo-Republican)
ii. Mutual dependency brought upon by global citizenship
iii. Global dimension of citizenship

2. Insights (What new insights or learning did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that global

citizenship is merely one citizen becoming a citizen of another nation provided
that he/she undergoes the proper processes required and that’s just about it,
no underlying intentions to achieve something. However, reading the
article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that global citizenship is
idealistic in several factors as it attains to negate the so-called “North-South
dichotomy”.

ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that those who
have power or those who are in higher positions in the socio-economic class
somehow takes advantage of what the working force may offer especially
when they migrate to other countries for reasons such as higher pay. However,
reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize there is mutual
dependency that occurs in the process of global citizenship in which
sustainability, better climate, improved security, etc. are ensured to be
properly supplied.

iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that there are
generalized standards that are considered in global citizenship. However,
reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that there are
two dimensions involved in global citizenship. One being the formal dimension
in which it was stated that it is difficult to transfer to an international level since
there is no established international legislations. On the other hand, the moral
dimension is free from the administration since it focuses on the individuality of
candidates and his/her contributions for the betterment of society.

3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you
want more explanations about?
i. How does global citizenship realistically eliminate the Global North-South
dichotomy in the contemporary world?
ii. How is the formal dimension of global citizenship evaluated if there are no
established international legislations?
iii. How is the moral dimension of global citizenship evaluated due to its
subjectivity since each human being contributes differently and acts upon
certain global issues however they want to?
