is an event in which all the
cultural varieties and
folklore of the Colombian
Caribbean Coast are
expressed, as well as the
most varied local
manifestations, such as
popular music and
dancing.
Where and It is celebrated in the city
when it is of Barranquilla in
celebrated. Colombia from Saturday
February 22 until Tuesday
February 25 in the year
2020, however this festival
or celebration begins on
the Saturday before Ash
Wednesday and ends on
the Tuesday immediately
after.
What people People disguise

characters in Barranquilla,

- La Marimonda, who at
the beginning defined the
mocking barranquillero
with few resources.
- The monocuco is the
disguise of who wanted to
hide his identity during the
party.
- María Moñitos was
created by Emil
Castellanos, who played it
for 25 years as one of the
classic characters of the
Barranquilla Carnival.
- Joselito Carnival that
symbolizes the joy, the
feast, the merrymaking
and the disorder of this
celebration of the God
Momo.
What people Among the festivities and
do. activities that take place
during the carnival, we
can highlight the Battle of
Flowers because it is the
most symbolic of all the
celebrations and that
includes the typical
Carnival characters: King
Momo, María Moñitos and
the Cayman Man. The
Battle of Flowers is a
parade of floats, troupes,
dance groups and
costumes; the parade is
chaired by the Queen's
carriage that dances and
throws flowers to the
 spectators, accompanied
by a great troupe of
princes and princesses.

After four days of intense

rumba, the Carnival of
Barranquilla comes to an
end with the death of
Joselito Carnaval, who is
the most representative
character for being a
symbol of joy and
celebration. On the
Tuesday before Ash
Wednesday, beginning
Catholic Lent, Joselito's
body is wept and buried
symbolically by the happy
widows who shared with
him his rumba days.
Why it is a Because it is cataloged in
special Colombia as a
celebration. masterpiece of the Oral
and Intangible Heritage of
Humanity, it is the most
awaited date of the year
not only for Colombians
but also for those who
want to enjoy during the
four days of a cultural and
folkloric event full of ethnic
diversity, joy, dance, music
and entertainment.
