As this license gives the holder permission to carry their weapon throughout our communities, we hope you agree the review and issuance process is a serious responsibility that should be thoughtfully and thoroughly undertaken. Once issued, the license remains in effect for five years, unless the holder commits a disquelifying offense, The LTCF application requests two non-family personal references who can attest to the suitability of the applicant for obtaining this license. The Sheriff's office is asked to procure and contact those references. The Sheriff's office has 45 days to complete the application review. ‘As Pennsylvania is a “Shall Issue” state, the LTCF reference check is an important opportunity to gather information that affirms, or disqualifies, the applicant in terms of his or her suitability for responsible firearm carry. ‘Our organization, GunSenseUs asks that you sign the enclosed pledge, which indicates you will conduct a thorough investigation of the applicant, including obtaining and contacting each of the personal references provided by applicants before making a final determination as to issuing the license or renewing it.
