Using HyPack with a TRDI ADCP: Create a project.

GPS data must be brought into Hypack separately

from ADCP data. Direct serial connection to the ADCP rather than Bluetooth is strongly recommended.
For hardware setup, you will need at minimum two survey devices:
- GPS NMEA-0183.
o
o Minimum functions:
 Record raw messages
 Position
 Speed
 Record device specific messages
o Setup: as desired, but ‘Used messages’ must include GGA
- ADCP driver (minimum version 18.2.3.0, but yours should probably be higher).
o Survey Devices/Minimum functions:
 Depth
 Heading
 Generate output functions
o Survey Devices/Options: use for matrix update should be checked to see depth data
during survey
o Survey Divices/Setup: you will need to choose between single beam mode and multi-
transducer mode. In single beam mode, the RiverPro will provide two depths directly
under the ADCP – one the average slant beam depth and the other the vertical beam
depth, displayed in post processing as if it were a dual frequency echo sounder. In
multi-transducer mode, you will get a depth for each slant beam offset from the ADCP
position, and a depth from the vertical beam.
 Under Options, select RDI from the drop-down box.
 Check or uncheck the ‘Use as multi transducer’ option as desired.
o Offsets: the heading data is referenced to beam 3 of the ADCP, thus the boat
orientation shown in survey will reflect that orientation which may be different from the
vessel heading. Enter a yaw offset if you desire vessel heading to be shown during
survey instead of ADCP orientation. For post-processing, you must enter the magvar as
the yaw value.
- You will of course need to set the serial port information in the Survey Connect tab for each
device.

Prior to starting survey, use BBTalk to configure the RiverPro for default operation – send CR1 and CK
commands. HyPack does NOT have a smart ADCP configuration window due to the range of ADCPs
supported.

In Survey, you will see a window titled ‘ADCP Driver’. Click on the ‘Go’ button to start pinging on the
ADCP. Once pinging, Start/Stop logging will toggle data collection on and off. Use HyPack Survey as
normal from there.

Post processing in Single Beam Editor 64 (SBMax64.exe):

- Configuring Read Parameters:
o Devices tab: click Edit to show the Device offsets window
 Change the yaw offset to reflect magvar only if required
 If using multi-transducer mode, click on the Multiple Transducers button
 Verify that the correct beam angles are listed. For RiverPro:
 beam 1 = 0 pitch, -20 roll
 beam 2 = 0 pitch, 20 roll
 beam 3 = 20 pitch, 0 roll
 beam 4 = -20 pitch, 0 roll
 beam 5 = 0 pitch, 0 roll
o Processing tab: if using multi-transducer mode, ensure that both ‘Apply Pitch and Roll
Corrections’ and ‘Steer Sounding Beam’ are checked.
- Edit depth data as needed
- To view velocity vectors, Click on ‘View, Flow Window’ and set options as desired

From there, process as normal in HyPack.
