Uses of oil
Eg- Fuel is a material used to burn or heat something to produce energy. Almost everything we
use depends on fuel. Fuel plays an indispensable role in cooking, automobile manufacturing and
processing. Life without fuel is hardly conceivable. But at the moment, we are faced with a huge
fuel crisis. Oil fuels the world and makes it run and progress.
The Land of barren desert, the UAE (United Arab Emirates), was a just a small inhabitation of
fishermen community which today stands as an epic land of luxury, wonders of manmade
possibilities and a top financial destination of the world. All this has been possible in UAE’s fate
just because of petroleum, which allowed it to sell billions of barrels around the world and
enrich their economy. Such marvels have been possible due to petroleum but no doubt, it’s not
infinitely found on Earth. In fact, it is being used at such a high rate that it shall hardly last for
the next few decades.

2. Pop, consump incr; greedy and exploitative nature- overextraction of oil reserves(tech, With fast
expanding transport network this consumption level is bound to increase.)
3. Take lots of time to form; finite; non renewable
4. The air pollution has increased a lot because of the petroleum products which has great impact
on the Taj Mahal (world heritage monument). Petroleum products used in the industries and
vehicles release various pollutants and emissions which affects our living environment. Rise in
temperature of earth has resulted in melting of polar ice caps, flooding of low lying areas and
rise in sea levels.
5. Besides creating smog and respiratory diseases, these pollutants – particularly carbon dioxide –
collect in the atmosphere and prevent the Earth's heat from escaping into space. As a result,
scientists predict the Earth's temperature could increase by as much as 4 degrees Celsius by the
end of the century. Besides this disastrous outcome, carbon dioxide also acidifies the oceans,
killing sea creatures and reducing the ability of ocean water to absorb this harmful gas.
6. Global warming, caused due to the emission of greenhouse gases that are produced by burning
of fossil fuel, will become a problem of the past when we begin conserving oil
7. Global warming, respiratory diseases and acid rain. The greenhouse gases, which are emitted
from these vehicles, trap the heat in the atmosphere, cause rise in temperature, and negatively
affect wildlife and sea level.
8. The oil, which is used in sea transportation sometime cause oil spills in the water, which creates
an unwarranted vulnerability for sea animals. Not only sea but also the land vehicles which runs
on highways also discards fuel on the road and that seeps in to nearby waterbody and
contaminate lakes and river
9. Besides damaging the environment, air pollution caused by the emission of gases produced in
burning of fuels can result in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, and lung cancer.
Long-term exposure may increase respiratory infections in general people. Natural flora and
fauna get affected with the toxic emissions that further complicate the ecological imbalance.
10. Economic from book

These include adoption of measures and practices which are conducive to

increase fuel efficiency and training programme in the
1. transport sector; modernisation of boilers, furnaces and other oil
operated equipments with efficient ones and promotion of fuel
efficient practices and equipment in the industrial sector;
standardisation of fuel efficient irrigation pump sets and rectification
of existing pump sets to make them more energy efficient in the
agricultural sector and development as well as promotion of the use
of fuel efficient equipment and appliances like kerosene and LPG
stoves in the household sector.
2. Geo bok
3. Transport- public, carpool, walk, more fuel efficient engines, operation of transport vehicles at
optimum speed, improving road conditions and avoiding traffic bottlenecks,
An estimated one drop per second leakage can waste around 2000 liters of diesel. Driving in
correct gear is highly recommended since a wrong gear can put a high load on engine and cause
a 30% increase in fuel consumption.
4. In agriculture sector, the main petroleum products consumed are high speed diesel and light
diesel oil. The consumption of oil in this sector can be reduced by programmes for pump
rectification, more efficient foot valves for lift irrigation, better farm machinery, use of agro
residues and other noncommercial sources of energy
5. Renewable forms of energy(solar panels)
6. improving the efficiency of existing machines
7. Awareness- Oil Conservation Week 2019 was celebrated from Friday, 04th January 2019 to
Thursday, 10th January 2019.; PCRA (organistaions)
8. Planned and effective use of oil- cleaner and healthier environment; not just for us but also
future generations
9. small steps taken by each and every citizen can prevent a bigger crisis in future.
