23
2.1.1.B List the curricular gaps for the attainment of defined POs & PSOs 04

O In VTU curriculum, course on ethics doesn’t offer sufficient information to students.

Hence to bridge the gap, a course on ethics has been introduced.
O Course on communication skill and leadership quality is not sufficient in VTU
curriculum. Hence this gap has to be bridged.
O Mathematics-3 & Mathematics-4 can’t be effectively taught to the lateral entry
diploma students, as they do not have the background of Basic Engineering
Mathematics. This gap has to be bridged.
O Software skills required for industry are insufficient in VTU curriculum. This gap has
to be bridged.
O The pre placement training covering areas such as Aptitude Test, Group Discussion,
Logical Reasoning, Personal Interviews., etc is to be imparted.

 Identification of prerequisites for bridging the Gap

 VTU curriculum does not offer a core course on composite materials as it is an
elective. Hence it has to be taught to bridge the gap.
 The service sector, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) has
potential for job opportunities and this course is not included in the VTU
curriculum and hence training programme can be organized in association
with ISHRAE/ ASHRAE, Bengaluru Chapter.
 Industrial Roboticscourse is not included in the VTU curriculum as core
subject and hence workshop / seminar which emphasized the need of robotics
and creation by applying modern tools may be taught to bridge the gap.
 The commercially used CAE Softwares are not included in the VTU
curriculum and CAE software training may be organized to enhance the
software skills for design and analysis the mechanical components.

2.2.1 Describe The Process Followed To Improve Quality Of 25

Teaching Learning

2.2.1.A. Adherence to Academic Calendar (3):

 The institute prepares its academic calendar well in advance to the commencement of
semester. This calendar is prepared in conformity to the university academic calendar.
 The department prepares its own academic calendar inline with the institute’s
calendar of events.
 The academic calendar contains all the relevant details such as number of working
days, test sequences, Parent Teachers Meeting, guest lecture schedules, dates on
which conference, workshops, seminars, industrial visits, cultural fests and sports
events are conducted. In addition, the details of alumni meeting, last working day,
commencement of practical and theory examination are also indicated.
 Subject distribution meeting is conducted in which subjects are distributed to faculty
members based on their area of specialization and number of times they have taught
the subject of their choice.
 Lesson plan is prepared by faculty in their subjects in line with ISO format.
 Teachers prepare lecture notes, assignments, etc. prior to commencement of semester.
 As VTU curriculum is not having course objectives and outcomes, the same is written
for that course.
Calendar of events of the department are given below

appropriate weightage to each component of the experiment.

 The laboratory performance evaluation sheet is properly filled.

 Viva questions are prepared on each experiment.

 At end of the semester and after completing all the experiments in the syllabus, students are
permitted to repeat the experiments.

G Student feedback of teaching learning process and actions taken (6):

 Students’ feedback is taken on every course after each test to evaluate course performance.

 The feedback form has 17 parameters with 3 levels namely ‘Good’, ‘Satisfactory’, ’Poor’,
covering various aspects of teaching learning process.

 Based on the remarks of students, the performance of teacher is evaluated.

 If the performance of any teacher is not satisfactory then appropriate corrective measures are
initiated at HOD’s level. Further, concerned teacher is given tips and guidelines at 3 different
levels namely

(a) counseling of teacher at HOD level

(b) counseling of teacher at Dean level

(c) Counseling of teacher at Principal level.

 The outcome of the counseling is evaluated by taking a second feedback of the teacher on same
course after the second test.

 In case of teachers whose feedback is very good, a letter of appreciation is issued.

 Helps in understanding the student’s problem with respect to teaching learning process.

 Teaching performance of faculty improves.

 Students will be able to understand the subjects effectively.

Process for internal semester question paper setting and evaluation and effective process implementation
(5):
1. As per VTU guidelines, 3 internal tests are to be conducted. First test is conducted generally
after 5 weeks from the date of commencement of the semester, second test after 9 weeks, third
test after 13 weeks.

2. Total IA marks per course is 25. Each test has a weightage of 25 marks and average of best
two tests is taken as the IA marks of the student.

The procedure adopted to set the question paper, and evaluation of the answer script is as
below:
3. Question papers are set by the teacher of that course in each subject.

4. If more than one teacher is teaching a course, then question paper is set after discussions
among them.

5. Question papers are scrutinized by departmental question paper scrutiny committee.

6. Scheme of evaluation of question paper is prepared by the course teacher (s).

7. The scrutiny committee verifies the quality of question papers with respect to the following

 Whether the question paper is as per the recommended format

 Whether syllabus prescribed for the test is covered or not

 Whether CO’s of that course are reflected

 Whether Marks allotted to the expected answer is satisfactory

 Whether the questions can be satisfactorily answered within the prescribed time

55
8. If the question paper is not satisfactory then it is sent back to the concerned course teacher for
revision.

9. The test question paper is sent to the department test coordinator on the previous day of the
test.

10. Department test coordinator makes room allocations, seating arrangements and appoint room
supervisor for the entire scheduled test as per calendar of events.

11. The test coordinator gets the question paper Xeroxed and keeps it ready for the distribution on
the day of the test.

12. After the test is completed, the blue books are collected from the students and sent back to the
respective course teachers for evaluation.

Evaluation of Test Answer Scripts

 Teachers are generally given 3 days of time to complete the valuation of blue books from the date
of test.

 Evaluation is completed as per the scheme of evaluation.

 After evaluation, the blue books are distributed to the students to go through the marks awarded
and raise grievances if any.

 Student grievances related to marks awarded are attended by the course teachers.

 IA marks of all the students are entered in ACD14 format. Further the test result analysis is given
as per ACD12 format which helps to identify the bright and weak students.

 Fast learners are encouraged to perform better and slow learners are supported with additional
tools to improve as discussed in 2.2.1.C.

 A flowchart for question paper setting and evaluation process is as shown below:
