Faculty members of respective specialization with a team leader to discuss the
preparation of manual, material requirements, conduction of experiments and cycle
of experiments before commencement of semester.
In each session of the laboratory, the faculty explains the purpose of the experiment
and gives the demo about how to conduct the experiment.
The students will write the complete experimental procedure in the observation book,
conduct experimentation on the setup, tabulate the readings and interpret the results
based on the observation.
The conducted experiment with output, related theory, graph and result is
documented in the record book by the students later which is evaluated.
Probable Viva questions are prepared in advance for all the experiments.
For each experiment break up of marks is clearly shown and laboratory records are
evaluated as per the given breakup.
The Laboratories are evaluated by the faculties for 25 marks at two levels:
49
Evaluation of Laboratories:
50
Rubrics based Lab Performance IA Test
Department: Mechanical Engineering Academic Year: 2017-18
51
52
Impact analysis:
Better performance in the laboratory and good results in laboratory examination.
Improvement in analytical abilities and practical knowledge of students to understand the real
world challenges.
The stimulating environment makes students to learn other software tools apart from Curriculum.
Laboratory record is evaluated as per the scheme of evaluation and mark is awarded by giving
appropriate weightage to each component of the experiment.
At end of the semester and after completing all the experiments in the syllabus, students are
permitted to repeat the experiments.
The feedback form has 17 parameters with 3 levels namely ‘Good’, ‘Satisfactory’, ’Poor’,
covering various aspects of teaching learning process.
If the performance of any teacher is not satisfactory then appropriate corrective measures are
initiated at HOD’s level. Further, concerned teacher is given tips and guidelines at 3 different
levels namely
The outcome of the counseling is evaluated by taking a second feedback of the teacher on same
course after the second test.

2.2.2 Quality of internal semester Question 20
papers, Assignments and Evaluation
Impact analysis:
Helps in understanding the student’s problem with respect to teaching learning process.
Process for internal semester question paper setting and evaluation and effective process implementation
(5):
1. As per VTU guidelines, 3 internal tests are to be conducted. First test is conducted generally
after 5 weeks from the date of commencement of the semester, second test after 9 weeks, third
test after 13 weeks.
2. Total IA marks per course is 25. Each test has a weightage of 25 marks and average of best
two tests is taken as the IA marks of the student.
The procedure adopted to set the question paper, and evaluation of the answer script is as
below:
3. Question papers are set by the teacher of that course in each subject.
4. If more than one teacher is teaching a course, then question paper is set after discussions
among them.
7. The scrutiny committee verifies the quality of question papers with respect to the following
Whether the questions can be satisfactorily answered within the prescribed time
55
8. If the question paper is not satisfactory then it is sent back to the concerned course teacher for
revision.
9. The test question paper is sent to the department test coordinator on the previous day of the
test.
10. Department test coordinator makes room allocations, seating arrangements and appoint room
supervisor for the entire scheduled test as per calendar of events.
11. The test coordinator gets the question paper Xeroxed and keeps it ready for the distribution on
the day of the test.
12. After the test is completed, the blue books are collected from the students and sent back to the
respective course teachers for evaluation.
After evaluation, the blue books are distributed to the students to go through the marks awarded
and raise grievances if any.
Student grievances related to marks awarded are attended by the course teachers.
IA marks of all the students are entered in ACD14 format. Further the test result analysis is given
as per ACD12 format which helps to identify the bright and weak students.
Fast learners are encouraged to perform better and slow learners are supported with additional
tools to improve as discussed in 2.2.1.C.
A flowchart for question paper setting and evaluation process is as shown below:
56
Fig 2.2.2.A.1:Flowchart for question paper setting and evaluation process
Follow up Action:
Parent Teachers Meeting is conducted on the scheduled date as per calendar of events and parents
are apprised of performance of their wards.
In case of parents who do not attend the Parent Teachers Meeting, the progress report is sent
through post / courier / phone call /sms.
57
D. After evaluation, the attainment of the COs with respect to different questions are evaluated and COs are
