1. Introduction
The Jembi is the complete business tool, enabling you to offer a variety of services that include voice calls, text
messaging (SMS) and VAS - in either pre-paid or post-paid mode. The Jembi is built on a solid wealth of experience,
and considers security a top priority. Its impressive security features protect both the Jembi and your business. The
Jembi’s high-capacity internal battery pack provides over seven hours of talk-time. The battery pack can easily be
recharged using the included charger.
Running your business is easy using the Jembi menus - they will enable you to control and maintain the Jembi,
as well as set purse options and profit margins and view highly descriptive records. Depending on the model* of
the Jembi, you can connect both a printer and scanner, enabling you to offer value-added services via Psitek’s
VendingReady and ContentReady services.
This guide will explain how to take full advantage of the exciting features the Jembi has to offer.
Figure 1
Please adhere to the following precautions and guidelines with regards to the daily operation of the Jembi.
Failure to do so could result in personal injury and/or damage to the unit.
As with all wireless phones, the Jembi is susceptible to interference, which could affect
performance.
Do not use the Jembi in hospitals or in the vicinity of medical equipment, e.g. pacemakers or
hearing aids, as the Jembi transmits radio waves which could cause interference.
Do not use the Jembi in an aircraft. The main battery should be unplugged before
transporting it on an aircraft.
Do not use the Jembi in areas where blasting is in progress. Always observe posted rules or
restrictions.
The Jembi transmits radio waves which may be hazardous to your health. Always ensure the
Jembi is kept at a minimum distance of 20cm from your body.
Always keep the Jembi and the batteries dry – they are not water-resistant.
The Jembi is not a toy and contains small parts that could be swallowed. Keep away from
children.
Do not expose the Jembi or the batteries to extreme heat or direct sunlight for extended
periods.
The batteries should be disposed in accordance with local waste disposal regulations.

3. Setting up
The Jembi has been designed with ease of use in mind - convenience that extends into the assembly of the various
components. This chapter will explain how to assemble the handset, install the batteries, insert the SIM card,
charge the battery pack and physically secure the unit.

Mounting it to a table
The Jembi has an M6 threaded mounting point, which allows it to be secured to any surface using a M6-sized
bolt. Ensure the bolt is the correct length. It must never be screwed in too far as it may damage the unit. The
bolt should not be inserted more than 12mm into the unit.

The LCD will also show the charge status, but how this is done depends on whether the Jembi is on or off. If the
charger is connected while the Jembi is switched on, a ‘charger connected’ icon ( ) will appear (see Figure 13).
The battery capacity icon will indicate the battery pack is charging and the LED will flash. Once fully charged, the
‘battery full’ icon will be displayed

8. Offering value-added services
Depending on the model of the Jembi, it may be VAS-enabled. The Jembi 220 has ports for both a printer and a
scanner, allowing it to offer VendingReady and ContentReady.
8.1 VendingReady
VendingReady is a comprehensive suite of services designed to expand the Jembi’s business capabilities. The
Voucher Distribution and Management Platform and the VAS portal are two aspects of VendingReady already on
offer, enabling the resale of pre-paid airtime vouchers using the Jembi 220. These vouchers are stored on the unit
and accessed via a menu, for resale. The vouchers are acquired from a central platform and the communication
medium is data call.
8.2 ContentReady
ContentReady menus are set by the distributor. Unlike the VendingReady platform, ContentReady sends and
retrieves information via GPRS, affording a more efficient alternative. ContentReady is ideal for individual
transactions, downloading items as and when they are required by a customer.
1
If enabled, the keypad lock will activate. Enter the keypad key and press to continue. For more details, refer to page 25.

• Symptoms
Ask the user what the problem is with the product. Record the problems that the Jembi presents or how the
problem is experienced by the user.
36
Solving problems
• Quantity
How many Jembi units present this problem at the same location? Identification of the problem is made much
easier depending on how many units have the same problem.
• Frequency
How often does the problem occur?
1. Every call
2. Only some calls
3. It happened once
• Location
You need to identify if the problem is site-dependent. Ask the user to move the product from one site to
another. (E.g. test it at home in the evening.)
1. Only ONE site?
2. Every site?
• Eliminate
Apply a process of elimination to identify the problem. Swap out peripheral parts with other known working
peripherals to further identify a faulty item.
• Fix
Address the problem by replacing the faulty item or sending it to a Psitek-accredited repair centre.
• Record
Record the details on an electronic database. It is vital that the distributor’s branches all have shared access
in order to understand how problems were resolved. It could save an employee a lot of time if he could refer
to other colleagues’ learnings. It is also very important to record failure rates within areas. It could point to
possible misuse or user problems within an area.
37
11. Looking after the Jembi
Taking good care of the Jembi is not only easy but will ensure a long life-span. By regularly cleaning the keypad
and hookswitch, as well as looking after the batteries, the Jembi will provide consistent and reliable service. The
charger should also be properly looked after, ensuring the cable is never wound too tightly, as this may damage
to the charger.
