5 SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This research study covers only the design, function, and materials used for the

aluminum melting machine.

1.5.1. Process Requirements

The equipment is only designed to melt crushed or compressed aluminum cans. The

researchers chose gas powered rather than electric powered heat source to melt the

aluminum cans. The reason is to lessen the complexity of the electrical wiring inside the

melting chamber. Since this equipment handles high temperature, repairs due to

overheating the electrical components will be much difficult. The control for the heat

supplied will be controlled the same manner as the regular kitchen stove. The fire will be

in contact directly to the aluminum cans for them to melt faster. Since melting is the

primary function of this machine, the rate of cooling of the machine is not included.

The melting chamber can accommodate 1 liter (tentative) of melted aluminum per

cycle and the size of the melting chamber will have a volume of 1.5 liters (tentative).

Measuring the temperature inside the melting chamber is not included in this research

because of very high temperature limits of this machine. A chimney will be installed in this

machine connected directly to the melting chamber for the passage of smoke. But the

environmental effects of this emission is not covered in this research. The thermal

efficiency of the machine is not included since the melting process is the primary function

of this research.
1.5.2. Design and Material Used

Materials used for this machine are mostly metals and commercially available.

Since a machine consists of different parts, the materials used for each part will vary in

terms of their function. The researchers use stainless steels for the outer casing of the

machine. For the stands, high strength iron that is commonly used for beams is chosen. The

melting chamber is made out of (search kayo ng high temperature resistant metals) to resist

the high temperature limits required in the melting process.

The machine will stand __ft tall, __ft in width, and __ft in length. Wheels are not

installed for this machine, therefore, this machine will be stationary. Since the machine is

mostly made out of stainless steel and iron, the weight of this machine is quite high. There

is no insulation that is covering the outside casing of the machine. This means that this

machine is dangerous (tentative word, bawal yata gumamit ng ganitong word sa researches

HAHAHAHA) to touch when the melting process is on-going.

1.5.3. Test Limitation of the Aluminum Melting Machine

The Aluminum melting machine will undergo in four different tests. These tests are

the measurement of the rate of melting, the amount of melted material produce, the time

consumed by a single process, and the amount of the melted aluminum over the amount of

crushed cans input.

The melting rate is needed to show how fast is the incineration inside the melting

chamber. The results achieved by this test will depend how long a single process is. This

1
will focus on the time consumed from when the fire is applied to the inside of the melting

chamber until all aluminum cans turn into liquid.

The next test is the amount of melted materials produced. Since not all melted

aluminum will be collected after the melting process, this test will show how many amount

of losses in terms of volume of the melted aluminum. These cause of these losses will takes

place inside the melting chamber. Some of the melted aluminum will stick inside the

chamber. The results of this test is important when determining how many aluminum cans

to be supplied in a single process to create (the product na naiisip niyo).

Next test will focus on the time consumed in a single process. The measurement

will start as the aluminum cans entered the machine and it will end until all the melted

aluminum inside the melting chamber is collected. The significance of this test is to

determine how long a complete process will take place.
