MUHAMMAD ALFATIH TIMUR

Muhammad Alfatih Timur known as Timmy was born in Padang, West Sumatera, 1991. He was a former
student activist and a social entrepreneur. He is a role model of social change through community
economic program which he founded with crowdfunding named “KitaBisa” on June 6, 2013.
Kitabisa.com is a website to raise funds and donate online. Fundraising using money are collected for
social purposes, helping others or creating masterpieces. Website that he founded it with his friend, so
far the fundraising has a total value of Rp.17 billion. All of it were used to fund 1388 activities and
initiatives.

A son of a doctor in West Sumatera went to primary school at Painan, middle school at Lubuk Basung,
and high school at Padang. He continued his education at Economy and Business Faculty in Universitas
Indonesia. Being the Founder and CEO of KitaBisa.co.id, he doesn’t forget about his inspiring father who
is a doctor and working at the inland of West Sumatera. Timmy’s father serves people without seeking
for rewards. In fact, sometimes he even got paid with packs of vegetables. Timmy grew up as a social
friendly, and helping person. This personality won Rhenald Kasali’s ( Lecturer at Economy and Business
Faculty in Universitas Indonesia) heart, then turn Timmy into his personal assistant. After the
graduation, he asked for any suggestion of what he has to study next. However, Rhenald asked him to
join in for a view years before he continue his study and being active at “Rumah Perubahan”.

When Timmy and his 8 co-workers started KitaBisnis.com, there was not much tools to be used as
collector and distributor of the donations. At the time, Timmy admitted that he was not really
understand about the system. The website started when Timmy was with a view of his friends at the
“Rumah Perubahan” was challenged to do a project that have a huge impact in the society. Their idea
was approved by Rhenald Kasali. With his scholarship to Australia and United States, he learned how to
raise fund properly. He also learned about social entrepreneurship which was rising at the time.

Now, Timmy is busy with his new fundrising program, but this time the fundraising program is for
charity. Timmy thinks that Indonesia has 200 trillion rupiah potential in charity, but the fact that now
Indonesia is only has 2 trillion rupiah income per year on charity. Timmy thinks that it is not because of
our people doesn’t want to give charities, but it is because they don’t have time to do it, because people
are busy and can not make time to go to the place where they are raising fund for charity. So, timmy
came up with the idea of online fundraising for charity. The society seems to be interested with this new
way of doing charity, and they start using it.

This far, his achievements are Top 5 Social Entrepreneur in January 2015 from US embassy & Jolkona
Foundation, seattle, USA, best graduate awards FE UI, 1st winner Indonesia ICT Awards from Ministry of
Communication & Information 2014, head of department and mentor in Indonesia Leadership Camp
(ILC) and UI Self Development Program (UISDP), Head of Strategic Studies Department in Student Bodies
of Faculty of Economics UI ( BEM FEUI )2008 - 2009, coordinator of studies in deputy department of
Student Bodies of University of Indonesia ( BEM UI ) 2009-2010, finalist DBS NUS Social Venture
Challenge Asia 2014, part of Global Shapers Jakarta Hub, and this last one is his most prestigious, which
is one of 30 “Under 30 List for Social Entrepreneur Category” from Forbes Asia.
In conclusion, Muhammad Al Fatih Timur is an inspiring person for all of us, from such a simple trait of
helping people, he made a big impact for himself and his society. He is a role model for us of how we
should be as a human being. Social business that timmy has contributed in, not only giving impact for
the society but also creating sustainable profit.
