 Germany could not defend herself after WWI.

 Source A extracts some Articles from the Treaty of Versailles and Germany was
forced to sign the Treaty.
 From source A, we note that Article 181 of the Treaty stated that German
navy was restricted to six battleships and no submarines.
 Besides, Article 198 stated that Germany was not allowed to have an air
force.
 But at that time, the warship was three dimensional which included the
participation of air force, land force and naval force.
 Moreover, from source C, the picture shows that Germany only had standing
army of 100,000 after WWI, whereas her neighbouring countries had much
large army. Even the smallest country of Belgium also had standing army of
72,000 and reserve army of 530,000 which was six times of Germany’s army.
 All these show that the Treaty of Versailles had largely limited Germany’s
military strength. This made Germany could not defend herself after WWI.

4.
 The Big Four treated Germany very bad.
 They forced Germany to sign the Treaty of Versailles which was very harsh and
unfair to Germany.
 Germany had no choice but to sign the Treaty. Although Germany had signed
the Treaty, she could not handle such harsh and unfair Treaty.
 With reference to source A which extracts some Articles from the Treaty of
Versailles,
 the League of Nations was set up but Germany was not allowed to join. It
was unfair to Germany.
 Some articles required Germany to give up her colonies and land to the Big
Four, as well as other countries. As Germany’s economy had already been
weakened by the WWI, the Treaty had further weakened Germany’s
economic power which she could not handle.
 Germany had to bear the sole responsibility of WWI and she had to pay
huge compensation to Big Four. This further affected Germany’s financial
position.
 Since Germany should not be the only one to be blamed for the WWI, the
punishment was too harsh and unfair to Germany.
 Source D shows that
 the pill which represents the Treaty terms is too big and bitter for the man,
which represent Germany, to swallow. This implies that Germany could not
handle the Treaty.
 It also implies that the Treaty of Versailles was two harsh for Germany.
 This picture also shows four men told the man to “swallow the pill whether
you like it or not”. It means the Big Four forced Germany and Germany had
no choice but to accept the Treaty of Versailles even though the Treaty was
harsh and unfair to Germany.

(a) “His Majesty” refers to the King of Germany at the time of 1914.

(b) The incident which led to the “conflicts now going on between Austria and that
country” was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife by
a Bosnia Serb in Sarajevo.

One of the clues from source A is that source A is a piece of information about
the situation in June 1914 adapted from “The First World War”. Sarajevo
Assassination also happened in June 1914 which was the immediate cause of
First World War. So the incident should be the Sarajevo Assassination.

Another clue from source A is the phase “His Majesty cannot interfere in the
conflicts now going on between Austria and that country”. At the time of June
1914, Austria had conflict with Serbia because Archduke Francis Ferdinand and
his wife were killed by a Serb. So that incident should be the Sarajevo
Assassination.

(c) “he” in the statement “he will faithfully stand by Austria-Hungary” refers to the
king of Germany at that time.

I agree with this statement because the Sarajevo Assassination started the
conflict only between Austria-Hungary and Serbia at first. When Germany noted
that Russia supported Serbia, she declared war on Russia to show her support
to Austria-Hungary. This shows that Germany stood by Austria-Hungary.

Besides, Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy formed the Triple Alliance. Italy
later changed sides to support the Allied Power. Only Germany supported and
stood by Austria-Hungary from the beginning up to the end of First World War.
This further shows that Germany’s support to Austria-Hungary was very faithful.
So I agree with the statement “he will faithfully stand by Austria-Hungary”.

(a) The feature of the First World War as reflected by these picture is that the war
resulted in serious injuries and deaths. Many people were killed during the war
and even some were not killed, they wounded so seriously that they became
disabled after the war.

From the first picture, many dead bodies were lying on the ground. They were
dressed as soldiers. One of the dead body was without legs. It implies that the
war was very serious and shows a feature that many soldiers were killed in the
war.

From the second picture, two men were talking. One of them on wheel chair
and the other had artificial limbs. It shows a feature that many people, even
though they were not killed in the war, were seriously wounded and became
disabled people after the war.

(b) One of the causes of the feature was using many new weapons in the war,
example, machine guns, tanks and explosives. These weapons had large
killing and wounding power. They could killed and injured a lot of people easily.

Another cause of the feature was using air force in the war. The air force could
attacked people more easily and it was difficult for people to take cover from
being attacked. Therefore, many people were killed and injured during war.
