DESCRIPTION
General Chemistry: Modified high molecular
weight castor oil based ester
Troythix™A is a bodying agent for
nonaqueous coatings and is supplied as a white
powder. It is a polymerized chemically inert
organic ester that is activated by heat and shear
to impart the following rheological properties:
• High thixotropy
• Sag resistance
• Pigment suspension
• Improved brushability
• Reduced penetration
• Viscosity increase
• Reduced pigment flooding and floating
USE
Troythix™A is effective in trade sales and
industrial coatings thinned with hydrocarbon,
ketone and ester solvents. Typical applications
include:
• Trade sales primers and topcoats
• Industrial primers and topcoats
• Maintenance primers and topcoats
• Pigmented stains
• Two component epoxy and urethane
coatings
• Nitrocellulose lacquers
• High build chlorinated rubber coatings

INCORPORATION
Troythix™A must be incorporated during the
pigment dispersion stage of manufacture.
Optimum results are obtained with high speed
dispersers and media mills. A minimum
incorporation temperature of 145°F (63°C) is
required for systems based on aliphatic
hydrocarbon solvents. With aromatic
hydrocarbon and oxygenated solvents, best
results are obtained within a dispersion
temperature range of 110°F (43°C) to 130°F
(54°C), and seeding may result if the upper
limit is exceeded. The following procedure is
recommended.
1. Add Troythix A to the dispersion vehicle
and mix for five minutes.
2. Add pigments and disperse, observing the
temperature requirements indicated above.
3. Add let-down vehicle gradually,
maintaining good agitation, until
temperature is below 120°F (49°C).

USE LEVEL
Typical use levels of Troythix™A are from 0.2% to 0.8% based on total formula weight. The
optimum level will vary depending on the formulation and the properties required.
