Introduction:

The challenge of achieving global sanitation targets is that it requires application of both technology
that is appropriate and a supporting organizational structure. According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), sanitation is generally referring to the provision of facilities and services for proper disposal of
human waste (urine feces). Open defecation on the other hand is the practice of removing waste from the
body through the anus: outside in and around one’s local community or public because of no access to
toilets, latrines or any kind or removing excreta.

Open defecation and lack of sanitation and hygiene in general is a big factor that cause various
diseases. The most common diseases are diarrhea and intestinal worm infections but also typhoid, cholera,
hepatitis, polio, trachoma and others.

Certain diseases are grouped together under the name of waterborne diseases, which are disease
transmitted via fecal can lead to water pollution. When rain flushes feces that are dispersed in the
environment into surface water or unprotected wells.

Health is not the only reason to build and use toilets. They also want Privacy, Safety, Comfort and
Cleanliness.

Locale:

Lingsat is a community in the municipality of Bantay, Ilocos Sur situated at approximately 17.6241,
120.4811 in the island of Luzon. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 361.3 meters or 1,185.4 feet
above mean sea level. The population of the community is 1,123 and their major source of income is
farming. The community has four sitios namely: Centro, Naglemmengan, Kakardisan, and Tagaytay.

Target Beneficiary:

The target beneficiary of the project will be the family of Mrs. Cochita Padron their house is located
in most eastern part of Sitio Tagaytay, Lingsat, Bantay. Their main source of living is charcoal making and
family is composed of eleven household members. (studying-2, working-6, child-3). Their health condition
is not that good. The average income of the family is 5000 pesos per month which reflects that they are
unable to meet all their health needs. They have received already toilet bowl from the government
unfortunately it was destroyed during the typhoon. Their situation was depressing primarily because their
lack in benefits, and other needs that the will use to survive

Bottle Drive
 Minimum of 20 pcs empty plastic bottle per month for 250ml or 500ml
 Minimum of 10 pcs empty plastic bottle per month for 1 liter/ 1.5 liter
 Monthly collection of empty plastics bottles
 ALL HEALTH SCIENCE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT EMPTY PLASTIC
