Oral Production Activity Unit 8

Topic: On a trip

Dear Students,

You will participate in an assignment of making a video. You have to tell us about a trip you are
taking.

Here the steps to complete the assignment:

Step 1:

Read the following e-mail:

Dear Shirley,
We're having a great time in Monaco! I'm sitting by the pool and drinking a cool, pink drink.
Susie is swimming. The children are playing and fighting. John is fine. He's reading in the
hotel room. Tomorrow we're going to Barcelona. Hope you're feeling fine!
Much love,
Jenny, John, and the kids

You can also find the e-mail in Unit 8 Lesson 2 on English Discoveries.

Step 2:
After reading the e-mail, imagine you and your family are on a trip out of town, even better if it is in
another country.
Get some photos to help while speaking on the video.

Step 3:
Follow the example and prepare a script telling us about a trip you and your family are taking.
Sample script:
Hello, my name is Rosa. My family and I are having a really great time here in New York! (recording on
video while speaking and showing pictures).Look! This is Central park! My parents are walking and my
brother is playing. He’s so happy! Tomorrow we are visiting museums. We are interested in art. On
Friday we are seeing a play in Broadway.

I love this city! It’s so cool.
Thanks for watching.
Bye!
Step 4:
Record yourself on a video telling us about the trip and what you and the rest of your family are
doing. Imagine it is a Skype conversation.

Here are some things to keep in mind while recording your video:

• Speak as clearly as possible.

• Smile.
• Be in a well-lit area.
• Be confident.
• Look at the camera when you speak.
• Don’t just read.

Some guidelines to make your video:

• Use vocabulary and grammar structures studied in Unit 8:

• Verb BE
• present progressive
• Adjectives
• Your video should last about 1 minute or 1 minute and a half (1’-1’30).
• Use youtube.com to make the video. Test your video works well before sending the link. Change
video privacy setting to “Public” so your teacher can view it.
• You can also use any other software to make your video.
• You have to paste the link of your video and the script (the script is referential) in the
Assignment section (Actividad in Unit 8) on Blackboard.
• Use the template below (See page 3).

Assessment criteria:
• pronunciation and intonation
• fluency
• accuracy
• task achievement (clarity and use of webcam)

This task is due on Sunday, May 26th at 23:59 p.m.
