Vegetable Peel Fertilizer using

Allium Cepa & Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus

( Proponents: Kelly Banjao, Charles Misterio and Jarah Narciso)

A. Question or Problem being Addressed

Nowadays, the problem of plants in our country that mostly planters is currently facing is the

fertilizers. Many plants die every year, and it is said that fertilizing will help only if lack of

nutrients is the problem. Non biodegradable waste is the problem to most planters because it is

also the cause why most of their plants grown poorly, it is said that this waste can drained and

destroy the nutrients of the soil. Instead of using organic fertilizer such as manure they use

inorganic fertilizer to make their plants grow faster and strong, the plants that fertilize with

organic fertilizer receive more nutrients than that other one, but this fertilizer tend to leach, this

can build up of salts in the soil and causing damage to their plants. Nitrogen is very vulnerable to

leaching.

Organic fertilizer adds more natural nutrients, feds important microbe in the soil and

improves the structure of the soil even after the plants have taken the nutrients they need. All

biodegradable waste reduces itself over time to compost, an organic natural material. This is

because all biodegradable waste comes originally from natural products, such as trees and plants,

whereas non-biodegradable waste, including many plastics, is man-made. This compost can then

be used to help plants grow to make more biodegradable materials. In fact the number of affected

by this problem was a hundreds of planters. So it is obvious that this become a problem. What

should be a fertilizer that I will use? What is the impact of the soil with this fertilizer? How

expensive are most commercial fertilizer, is all planters can afford to buy it? Is there a cheaper, a
safer and natural for this expensive commercial fertilizer? Well, the researchers will make a

fertilizer by the use of carrots and onion as a natural fertilizer to prevent soil pollution and to

lessen the problem of planters, to help our soil from being ruin and to help poor people and

living the rural parts of the Philippines to afford a fertilizer for their plants. This vegetable peel

fertilizer also help to avoid foods from chemical. This help the plants to grow healthy and

natural. Organic Fertilizer create a healthy growing environment.

B. Goals/Hypothesis/ Expected Outcome

This study aims to lessen biodegradable waste. By using vegetable peel as an alternative

fertilizer, this can help to lessen the biodegradable waste and helping our mother earth. In

specific, this study aims:

 To determine the effectiveness of the 2 dry vegetable peel in terms of the height of plants.

 To determine the significant difference of the height of plants before and after

application.

Procedures

This study aims to reduce biodegradable waste and turned it as a fertilizer rather than letting

it piled up anywhere. The dependent variable is the growth of the mongo plant, and the

independent variable is the amount and type of fertilizer will be making. The controlled

variables will be the 30 mongo plants, (1 cup) of water, (humus) type of soil and lastly the

exposure to sunlight.
C.1 Gathering of the materials

The researchers will gather all the materials needed: Monggo seeds, plastic, measuring

spoon, incinerator, dry Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus (carrot) and Allium Cepa (onion) peels.

C.2 Incineration of the 2 dry vegetable peels

 The mini incinerator should be located in area with few combustible materials.

 After setting the can, fill it loosely with dry Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus (carrot) peels. Do

not fill it more than halfway to the top. The Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus (carrot) peels

should be dry to the touch before burning.

 Light the dry Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus (carrot) peels with a match and allow it to burn

in the incinerator . If for any reason you need to stop fire, you can place the lid onto the

trash can, which will choke the fire out. When the fire has completely died/off, you can use

the ashes of the Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus (carrot) peels as alternative fertilizer.

 Same procedure will be applied to the dry Allium Cepa (onion) peels.

C.3 Testing of the Machine

The effectiveness and capability of the incinerated dry Daucus Carota Subsp. Sativus

(carrot) peel and dry Allium Cepa (onion) peel using the mini-incinerator will be tested

through providing 10 monggo plants for each dry vegetable peel and 10 mongo plants for the

controlled variables.
C.4 Statistical Tool

The treatment Mean and Standard Deviation will be used to describe the mini incinerator

based on : One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This will be used in the researchers study

to determine whether there is a significant contribution of the mean carbon fertilizer using the 2

dry vegetable peel to the height of the plants.
