It is a story in the Philippines from 1942 through 1944 that time the
Philippines suffered Japanese ruling and it was happened in the town of
Majayjay, Laguna. This movie portrays how Japan colonized our country in the
three years of darkness without God. The movie depicts the horror of war, the
fear that it creates, the dilemma of the people trapped in the struggles to
survive. But most of all, the movie tackles the love, aspirations of the three main
characters, their faith and before the movie ends, hope. I think the reason of
Mario O’ Hara to produced this kind of movie to visualized and realized the
Philippines during Japanese Era. Upon watching the movie, I felt blessed, sad
because I am thankful that I am not experiencing like that and I also sad
because at that time they are not achieve the justice that they deserve. “The
Three Godless Years” significantly explores the issue of forbidden love
while avoiding the use of xenophobic melodrama and racial stereotypes
excellent cinematography and colorful. Tranquil provincial locale combine with
engrossing story to deliver solid entertainment. The music was so impressive
because I feel I’ve witness that scenario, also there are redundant playing the
same song throughout the movie. Hopefully, this movie don’t be abolished
‘cause in our generation today must needed to watch to visualized how the
Philippines suffered from the Japanese Era. It has a different of what we
experienced today and before because unlike before women is not giving respect
just what Masugi did to Rosario, he raped her with forcedly action. This movie
symbolizes the truefaith of all the Filipinos ‘cause they never lose hope that the
war ends. I don’t know why Nora Aunor call us like a “SuperStar” but after I
watch the movie I am amazed on how Nora Aunor portrays their character with
full of emotion and determination to make a movie successfully. Now, I know
what other people sees about Nora Aunor in their acting ‘cause how brilliant she
is.

The film started with Adolf Hitler’s rhyming, mouth - foaming speech,
regarding the strength of his socialist party to exhorting his countrymen glory
under the banner of war. The use of World War II documentary footage including
the bombing of Pearl Harbor unmistakably sets the right milieu for the film and
the viewer is reluctantly seduced into a remembrance of a past era.

One day, Masugi happens to come to Rosario’s house together with his
close friend Francis (Peque Gallaga), he is a doctor. They gets drunk on her
family’s lambanog. After they drunk, Rosario tell them to escape but Masugi
forced her and Rosario run in their basement to refuge to Masugi. But Masugi
successfully found her and then he raped Rosario in their basement. Masugi
later returns to apologizing for his act last night, bearing gifts of canned goods
and rice which Rosario at first refuses, but her parents accept foods he brings
because they are never eat those food since the Japanese came in the
Philippines. Also, he manages to let her father freed when all men in the town
were confined in the church by Japanese troop so, the people anger to them
because Rosario fell inlove with a Japanese soldier. Rosario reveals Masugi that
she is pregnant. Masugi says he want to marry her. After birth Rosario went
out holding her baby and form a high bridge she is about to throw the baby but
cannot. Crispin knows what happened on her, but he goes underground again.
The night Rosario and Masugi get married, the guerilla attacks their house and
Rosario’s parents and her young brother are killed. At that time, Rosario learn
to accept and loved Masugi. One day, after Rosario and Masugi are attacked by
the guerilla, Crispin comes in their home heavily injured, then Rosario give some
medicine to heal the injured part of Crispin’s body. After healed, Masugi sends
Crispin to the guerilla forest.

The US come back and bomb the town, Leyte in October 1944. They
escape by a truck of Japanese army in March 1945, but it is attacked by the
guerilla. They manage to hide in the abandoned cottage in the forest. At
night Masugi never sleeps but watch outside. Rosario wakes up when they heard
some noise outside and Masugi guts that there are guerilla surrounded the
cottage. Masugi tells Rosario to escape with the child. But Rosario says she
doesn’t want to separate with him. Masugi let her run away but he is shot and
his dead body is hung on a tree.

Holding the child Rosario comes back to the town and meets the priests.
She asks the priest if God is and the priest tells her to pray. But when she
was praying, angry people came in to avenge her. Women cut Rosario’s hair,
and men killed her. Crispin finds her dead body at the school. He cries
holding her and Crispin sits on a chair in the church. And the priests hands him
Rosario’s child, then he asks the priests if God really is. The priests point a
blind man who came to pray. He has lost eyesight by the war, but still he
come to pray for his lost wife and family. It is for his love and truefaith, as long
as love matters, God
