1) Conventional NDT
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is the branch of engineering concerned with all methods of detecting
and evaluating flaws in materials.

Flaws can affect the serviceability of the material or structure, so NDT is important in guaranteeing safe
operation as well as in quality control and assessing plant life.

The flaws may be cracks or inclusions in welds and castings, or variations in structural properties
which can lead to loss of strength or failure in service.

Non-destructive testing is used for in-service inspection and for condition monitoring of operating
plant. It is also used for measurement of components and spacing and for the measurement of physical
properties such as hardness and internal stress.

The essential feature of NDT is that the test process itself produces no deleterious effects on the
material or structure under test.

A ) Radiographic Testing

Radiography is used extensively to reveal irregularities in a variety of product types, predominately

welds, castings, structures and composites.

Radiography is a versatile technique which can be adapted to be used both in the laboratory or on site,
on parts both large and small.
We can offer the Iridium Isotopes in order to carry out gamma radiographic examinations.
We have invested in state of the art processing equipment which can help speed up turn around times.

Application : Most weld discontinuities open to the surface-some large voids slightly subsurface .Most
suitable for crack.

C ) Dye Penetrant Testing

Dye penetrant testing is widely used to detect surface breaking flaws in both ferrous and non ferrous
parts. It can be used both on site or in a laboratory application with either color contrast or fluorescent
techniques.
In the laboratory it is particularly suitable for the inspection of batch quantities of machined parts and is
a cost effective and efficient method of testing for surface breaking discontinuities.
At B-MIT Services we can provide approved water washable or post emulsifiable systems with full pre-
cleaning and post test preservation capabilities.

D ) Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic testing is a nondestructive method of detecing , locating and evaluating internal

discontinuities in metals and other materials . The basic principle involves directing a high frequency
sound deam into the test material on a predictable path , which , upon reflecting back from an
interruption in material continuity , produces a wave that is amplified and usually displayed as a vertical
displacement as a vertical displacement on a cathode ray tube ,CRT .

Application : Most weld discontinuities including crack ,porosity ,lack of fusion , incomplete
penetration , slag ,as well as corrosion and fit-up defect, wall thickness ,dimensional evaluation .

3) Specialized Inspection Systems
Non Destructive Testing has radically changed emphasis over recent years from a focus on detecting
defects arising during the manufacture of new products, to detecting process induced integrity problems.
B-MIT has provide the forefront of an NDT technological revolution by a process of investment in
state-of-the-art equipment and specialised training to meet this step-change. The result is an
infrastructure that offers a comprehensive range of Advanced NDT Systems that individually or in
combination provide state of the art solutions to the ever-increasing demand for Non-Invasive Inspection.

Advanced NDT services are coordinated on a worldwide basis. It offers a proven record of delivering a
safe, technically sound and cost effective service that includes the following:

TANK-FLOOR SCAN
Traditionally, tank floors were inspected by cutting coupons from the floor to establish a baseline for
the underside condition of the floor. Since the introduction of a magnetic floor scanner, during 1989, the
integrity of the floor no longer needs to be destroyed by the removal of coupons. A number of floor
scanning tools are now available, B-MIT has chosen the MFE Enterprises tool for our Tank Inspection
Program.

MFE tool has a number of advantages:

- Twenty Four active sensors
- Battery Operated
- Inspects floors up to 0.375" thick
- Inspects through coatings up to 0.100" thick
- No umbilical cord required

This innovative MFE tool enables us to screen a tank floor for underside corrosion at a rate of one
thousand square feet per hour. The only preparation requirements are that the floor is clean and free
from loose debris, such as scale. The MFE tool detects corrosion whether it is located on the top or the
underside of the tank floor. The magnetic field does not discriminate between the location of the flaws.
The Magnetic field detects the material volume loss and so, on occasion, a small diameter deep pit may
have the same magnetic signal as a large diameter pit of less depth. Since the data from the tool is
qualitative, we have to perform additional inspection to quantify the depth of corrosion. This is done by
using a mechanical pit gauge for top side corrosion, and by performing ultrasonic inspection.

PHASED ARRAY ULTRASONIC

Phased Array (PA) ultrasonics is an advanced method of ultrasonic testing that has applications in
industrial nondestructive testing .When applied to steel the PA image shows a slice that may reveal
defects hidden inside a structure or weld
4) Training
B-MIT’s training runs a purpose built training School in chonburi hotel , Thailand.

The school is staffed by 3 full time professional Trainers each having a wide range of Industrial Training
experience.

Many of the courses offered are audited annually by AWS and the ASNT certification.

The courses offered follow a prescribed syllabus as laid down by ASNT but tailor made courses can
also be run to suit both individual and organizational requirements. The Training can be carried out at
the Training Centre, 'in-house' or at the customers site anywhere in Thailand, providing adequate
training facilities are available.

Certification to ASNT level I and II can be arranged to coincide with the Training.

5) Advanced NDT Services

A ) Long Range Ultrasonic Technique (LRUT)

To explain how it works; as torsional or longitudinal guided waves are induced into the pipe body
and propagated along the pipe segment being inspected. When these guided waves identify an anomaly
the waves reflect back to the LRUT

Tool’s original location. We use a laptop to digitally capture the results. The time-of-flight for each
signature is calculated to determine it's distance from the tool
CONVENTIONAL UT VS LRUT

Unlike Conventional UT where the readings are taken in a 3, 6, 9 & 12 ‘O’ clock positions; LRUT scans
100% of the pipeline surface in a single inspection.

FEATURES

- Diameters of 1.5” to 48”.

- Test Range Typical ±20mts on underground pipelines and approximate
±180mts in Ideal conditions.
- Production rate approximate ±300mts per day under ideal conditions.
- Service temperature from 00C up to 1000C.
B ) Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC) Testing

PEC (Pulsed Eddy Current) is an Electromagnetic technique for measuring the thickness of steel
objects, such as insulated pipes, Horton Sphere Legs, vessels etc.

PEC uses a probe that generates a pulsed magnetic field.

The characteristics of the eddy currents induced in the steel are measured to determine the thickness of
the steel.

For general ultrasonic technique you need to remove insulation at various places where you are
expecting corrosion; skilled operator and specialized probes/ couplant will be required to get proper
readings. PEC inspection is done without the removal of insulation. The high costs for removal of
insulation, inspection and reinstating the insulation thereafter can be avoided.
C ) Short Range Ultrasonic Testing (SRUT)

The technique is based on the concept of pulsing guided laminar waves into the base material from the
accessible area (chime / pipe support surrounding areas). The waves propagate up to two meter into the
plate / pipe.

When corrosion, pitting, erosion are present the ultrasonic waves mode convert and are received by the
same transducer
D ) Acoustic Emission Testing (AET)

AE is commonly defined as transient elastic waves within a material, caused by the rapid release of
localized stress energy.

CRACK LEAK ACTIVITY

E ) Tank Inspection using Robots

The key to B-MIT&TechCorr’s in-service inspections is our robotic inspection system, a remotely
controlled hydraulic robot specifically designed to inspect in-service tank floor bottoms.
SYSTEM FEATURES:

An array of 8 ultrasonic transducers that collects thickness measurements at every .1” (2.54 mm)

A sludge removal vacuum system that cleans the tank floor while collecting the data.

A video system mounted on the robot that allows for a visual inspection of the internal roof condition.

A compact design so that the system needs only a 20” (508mm) man way for deployment.
