RATIONALE

The focus of the study is to design a type of flood control system that can adequately be
used to respond and resolve urban floods. Flood is a common natural disaster that occurs
suddenly and quickly rises the water level in a certain area. Flood affects both community
and properties. The impact of flood varies on the location and vulnerability of a property.
Floods in urban regions lead to specific results, because the adjustment of the land
surface during urbanization produces changes in the extent of runoff processes. The
changes of runoff processes causes drainage control issues. In order to protect people
and properties from a disaster, a system has to be design to defense the flood. A flood
control system is used to reduce or prevent the detrimental effects of flood waters. One
efficient flood control system is installing a flood barrier. Flood barrier is an effective flood
defense system design to protect people and property from water intrusion. The system
is a temporary defense that provides protection to community and properties as required.
It can be removed until needed again and has no fixed foundation other than the ground.

The purpose of this study is to test a new type of flood control system that can
effectively be utilized to respond to and resolve urban floods. Floods in urban areas lead
to particular consequences, because the modification of the land surface during
urbanization produces changes in the magnitude of runoff processes. Within the urban
fabric, floods lead to increased runoff causing drainage control issues. Existing flood
control mechanisms are the primary insertions that prevent inundation by the river.
Unfortunately, current large scale systems are inappropriate to prevent flooding that
leads to excessive urban runoff. Furthermore, the urban flooding occurs at
unpredictable times locations within the city, posing further problems and demanding
solutions.
