SUB- COMPETENCES:
-making predictions based on a picture that students can see;
-reviewing and introducing new vocabulary related to houses, rooms in a house and
furniture, the verb ,,to be”, the plural of nouns;
-improving reading and pronunciation skills;
-developing comprehension skills;
-improving communicative skills, pair and group work;

AIMS:
 Students will be able to recognize and name different rooms of a house and
pieces of furniture
 Students will be able to use the targeted vocabulary in context
 Students will be able to say what pieces of furniture can be found in each room
(using there is and there are, this is and that is)

COMMUNICATIVE FUNCTIONS: to speak about houses, rooms and furniture using this
is, that is, there is, there are;
EVALUATION: Conversation, exercise
MATERIALS: pictures; cards; worksheets; blackboard; chalk; notebooks and pencils;
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS: students may become shy when they
have to give solutions to the tasks and use the English language. The teacher will
continually give them positive feedback encouraging them to use English for their answers.

Warm up:

Activity 1: Lead- in:

Aim: - to introduce the Ss. into the atmosphere of the lesson;


- to raise the Ss’ interest in the topic of the lesson;
- to motivate Ss. to interact and exchange ideas and information;
-to make predictions about what the lesson is about;
-to introduce the title of the lesson;

Techniques: question-answer; discussion; prediction;

Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T;

Time: 5’;

Procedure: The teacher shows the students two pictures: one with a house and the other
with a block of flats asking them to describe the pictures. Then, the children are asked some
questions related to the place they live in:
“Where do you live?
Do you live in a house or in a flat?
Do you like your house?
How many rooms has it got?
Which is your favourite room in your house?”
The teacher asks students to make predictions about the topic of the lesson, announces
the title of the new lesson and writes it on the blackboard.
Introducing the new vocabulary items:

Aims: -to introduce the new vocabulary;


-to discover the meaning of the unknown words;
- to review and practice this is and that is structures;

Procedure:
Activity 1: Students are put in groups of four or three, the T. gives them words representing
the names of the rooms in a house. The students have to agree where to stick them on a house
poster the Teacher places on the blackboard. The students also have tosolve ex. 1and to fill in
the names of the rooms on their worksheets.

Activity 2: SS are given some cards with different pieces of furniture and they are asked to
stick them on the blackboard next to the right room asking them questions such as: ,,What is
this? What is that?What is there in the bedroom?” T writes the names of different furniture on
the blackboard and the students have to write them in their notebooks.

Practice:

Aims: -to introduce and to practice there is and there are structures;
-to review the plural of nouns;

Activity 3:T asks SS to solve exercise 2 from their worksheets.They have to give the correct
plural forms of the nouns. In pairs, ss solve and give solutions for the matching exercise.

Activity 4: SS are asked to solve ex. 3 from their worksheets.

Homework assignment: SS receive ex. 5 on page 17 as homework.
