IV. PLOT
a. Expository - Once upon a time there was a boy whose name was Makato. He
was an orphan, for his father and mother had died when he was very young. He had
no brothers, sisters, cousins, or friends to take care of him, so he had to make a
living for himself. He did every kind of work—carrying heavy things, clearing away
the forest, or feeding pigs. He never idled over his work, and although he was paid
only a small wage, he was satisfied. He knew that if he did not work he would
starve. Wherever he went his employers praised him for being sensible, hard-
working, good-tempered, and cheerful.

b. Rising Action - The rising action of this story is when Makato started thinking
deeply about his future. One evening, after chopping some wood, he contemplated
on what he would like to do so he could have some adventure in his life. This led
him to taking on a new journey to the kingdom of Sukhothai and eventually meeting
the King, having the highest position in the court and even marrying the King's
daughter.

c. Climax – The climax of the story Makato and the Cowrie Shell is when Makato
decides to go visit the king of Sukhotai. While there he is given a cowrie shell and uses
it wisely.

d. Falling Action - As the years passed by, Makato grew tall and handsome. He
mastered the grace and served the king well. He was so loyal that the king trusted
him absolutely. He was promoted to higher and higher positions until he was given
the title of KhunWang, which meant that he was the most important person in the
king's court.

e. Denouement - Makato was married to the king's beautiful daughter. After their
marriage, the king made him the ruler of Mon.
