Windows update locking or crashing MC 2017-

2018
Problem
Windows 10 laptop with an NVIDIA graphics card. A recent Windows 10 update is installing a NIVIDIA graphics card driver dated 12.29.16 that is causing
Mastercam 2017 and 2018 to hang during startup. If you launch Mastercam Event Logger, it will get stuck on the Running command line commands...action.

Some people are also experiencing a crash on startup at this point.

Solution
There are a few ways to solve this problem. The first is to install the latest NVIDIA driver (version 377.11). This will prevent Windows from attempting to
“Upgrade” your driver again. To do this:

Click the following link to go to the NVIDIA website: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/116706/en-us. Note: This is for the 64-bit version of
Windows 10. Make sure this is your OS before installing this driver. You can find out your OS information by Opening Control Panel and clicking System:

If you have a different Operating system, search google for ***OS Name*** NVIDIA 377.11 driver and you will find what you are looking

for on the NVIDIA site. Don’t download the driver from a third-party site.

Download the driver.

Double-click on the driver and follow the installation instructions.

The second solution is to roll back your driver. I’d only recommend doing this is you do not have an internet connection for whatever reason, as Windows will just
update the driver again to the bad version.

Right-click on the Start button and select Control Panel.

Change the View By: option in the upper right of the dialog to Small icons.

Click Device Manager.

Expand the Display adapters node in the tree control, right-click on your NVIDIA graphics card, and click Properties.

Click on the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver. When prompted, select the My apps don’t work with this driver radio button and

click Yes. Windows will then roll back the driver.

If the roll back does not work, search the NVIDIA site for the 377.11 driver. Install using the Custom option and enable the Clean Install checkbox. This will
remove all old drivers and profiles from the system, but will require a reboot.
