COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Apply the correct use of grammar, sentence types and mood. (C3, LO1, LO2)

2. Demonstrate appropriate listening and speaking skills in response to various stimuli in

groups. (C3, P5, A3, LO2, LO4, LO5, CS2, TS1)

3. Apply appropriate reading strategies to various texts for reading comprehension. (C3,
LO2)

4. Write coherently various text types from a variety of sources. (C6, A2, LO3, LO6,
CTPS2, LL2)

This project is for evaluating the following Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 4.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

1. Show the main and supporting details of articles read in 2 different graphic
organizers.
2. Write an expository essay from one of the themes selected.
 3. Answer a Grammar Quiz, comprising topics on Parts of speech/Word Classes;
Tenses; Mood and Sentence Types.
4. Present an enacted role in a forum.

PROJECT (100%)
- There are four tasks to the project: Task 1, Task 2, Task 3, and Task 4.
- You must submit Tasks 1 and 2 in printed format.

Task 1 – 2 Graphic Organizers (20 %): Individual

1. Source and read up 2 articles of any topics related to the subject matter of your major
course.
2. Based on your reading, produce 2 graphic organizers in a digital form.

Task 2 - Essay (30 %): Individual

1. Write an expository essay from the theme ‘Safety and Health’.
2. Your essay should not be more than 1000 words.
3. Collate the essays to be showcased in a digital form.
4. The essay must have a good introduction, information of your topic and display well
developed ideas.

Task 3 - ROLE PLAY - Forum (10 %): Individual

1. Working with a group of 2 or 3 members, you are required to set up a -15 minute
forum.
2. You will be assessed individually
3. You should consider the following when preparing a forum:

a. Based on the theme in Task 2, present a forum in a simulated – setting.

b. Each member enacts a different role in the forum.
c. Learning points which may include moral values and aspects of language.

Task 4 – Grammar Quiz (40 %): Individual

1. The quiz consists of 4 sections

o Section A – Parts of Speech

o Section B – Tenses
o Section C – Mood
o Section D – Sentence Types

PROCEDURE

1. You are advised to discuss your work regularly with your lecturer to ensure targets
are met.
2. No duplication of assignments from other coursework is allowed.
 3. Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated. All borrowed ideas must be
acknowledged and properly cited.
4. Cite the source of the text and any references you used using the APA format.
5. Your work should be type written with 1.5 spacing and font Arial, size 11.
6. The cover page should adhere to the recommended coursework template.
7. The cover page should have the following information:
a. Student’s Name
b. Index Number
c. Identity Card Number
d. Class/Group
e. Course & Code
f. Title of Project
g. Lecturer’s Name
h. Date of Submission
8. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late
submission will be dealt with severely. (A deduction of maximum 5 marks.)
9. An excellent discussion should:
a. Demonstrate a sound understanding of all the topics in the RMK.
b. Apply all the fundamentals of the four language skills.

10. Marking Criteria

The assignment will be marked against the marking criteria set for this
coursework.
