ELECTIVES PENDING APPROVAL OF ADVISOR


The minimum number of hours of coursework for the entire degree is 45 credit hours (prior to
Dissertation). To complete this required number of credits, electives are to be chosen from the listings
that follow (or proposed by the student with advisor approval). The Advisory Phase Committee may
require more coursework beyond the 45 hours, especially if the student has not previously completed a
Master’s Degree in the field of concentration (either Educational Psychology, Psychology, or approved
by advisory committee).

TRANSFER CREDIT (up to 12 credit hours)

Doctoral course credit may be transferred from another accredited institution or another degree program at Kent
State University. This credit cannot have been taken to fulfill requirements for a Master’s Degree program or be
older than 6 years at the time of graduation. An adviser-approved Request for Transfer of Graduate Credit form,
with an accompanying official transcript, must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies in White Hall 418.

DISSERTATION COURSE WORK


After successful passage of the Comprehensive Examination, students have completed the Doctoral Advisory
Phase and begin the Dissertation Phase. A Dissertation Committee form must be submitted, with appropriate
signatures (its composition may differ from the Advisory Phase Committee). Dissertation course credit must be
taken by signing up for the following courses, in the manner described. Students must submit a committee-
approved dissertation proposal to the EHHS Office of Graduate Studies by the end of Dissertation I.
EPSY 80199 Dissertation I Two required consecutive semesters of 15 credit hours each (30 hours total).
EPSY 80299 Dissertation II Each subsequent semester for 1 credit hour, until completion.
