PREPOSITION

- shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word or


phrase to another word or words in the sentence.

List of the commonly used prepositions.

across beneath inside to

around between near up
as by of with
after down of out
at for on before

A preposition is often followed by its object, which may be a noun or


pronoun. This noun is called the object of the preposition.
Examples:

1. The boy saw a shadow behind the door.


2. The trash can beside the gate is already full.
3. Mother wants a playpen in the room.

Jane invited Pat to her mother’s house.

The underlined phrase is called a prepositional phrase .

1. My homeroom adviser is very concerned about me.

classmate.

Adjective phrase is a prepositional phrase acting as an adjective.


Examples:
1. The lady in a red dress is my favorite teacher.
2. The green vase on the table was broken.

Adverb phrase is a prepositional phrase acting as an adverb.


They show how, when and where an action happened.
Examples:
1. I ran with determination.
2. I will visit you on Sunday
3. The presentation will be held at the school campus.
