Lesson 1 - Introduction to Network 2

Platform
What is the same?

1. Sensors
2. Frame
3. Motor Controller (Uses ACS 101 or VLT)
4. Frame Control Panels
5. Traversing Cables and Carrier
6. Remote J-Box is supported
7. Utilities (Power, Air, Water)

Lesson 1 - Introduction to Network 3

Platform
Sensors
• All sensors except TLK/TLP/Basis Weight, Old Ash, and Smoothness are
supported. ( TLS1 will be supported in Release 1.3 due Mar/Apr ’09)
• Pigtails and carriage board (interconnect boards NP700) are the same.

Lesson 1 - Introduction to Network 4

Platform
Frame
• Unchanged mechanically.
• Installation procedure is the same
• Head Package is unchanged
• Wiring to switches, encoder, digital inputs, and motor
controller is the same.

Lesson 1 - Introduction to Network 5

Platform
Frame Control Panel
• Frame control panel operates the same Except:
– Manual limit led flashes if illegal limit is entered.
– Maintenance and standardize lights flash after restart
before encoder sync.
– Additional function for frame tuning.

Lesson 1 - Introduction to Network 6

Platform
Traversing Cables and Carrier
• The same cables are used for the NP1200 and SP1200 with -
004 backplane.
• The same cables are also used for the NP700 and SP700
with -004 backplane.
• The same cable carrier as Smart Platform is used.
• Carriage Board (interconnect boards) are the same as Smart
Platform.

New Processing Hardware
• Network Platform uses one Single Board Computer with Embedded XP. Operating
system is stored on Flash but locked to SBC.

• Communication to the CPU is by TCP/IP over Ethernet either to port on SBC or

through a Fiber Optical/Electrical Ethernet Board (Board not shown).

Platform
• 2 GB Flash Card used, no hard drive
• Very few writes are done to flash card.

Platform
I/O by DAQ Board
(Two boards may be used in larger systems)

32 analogue channels with up to 250kS/s

Most channels at 2000 measurements per second.
IR sampling at 20000 measurements per second

SSCB Standard Signal Conditioning Board (Two boards in larger systems)

Conditions signals for the DAQ and the PSCB
Preconditions the signals before they are sent to the DAQ board.
Has LEDs that indicate the validity of, SS (Watch Dog), +5 VDC, +12 VDC, -12VDC,
+15 VDC, and -15 VDC. Lesson 1 - Introduction to Network 17
