Shot in the Dark
In this insightful teaching activity, students make predictions about their classmates using
the future perfect and future continuous.

Before class, make one copy of the worksheet for each student in the class.

Procedure

Split the students into pairs.

Give each student a copy of the worksheet.

Ask them to put the verbs in each sentence into the future perfect or future continuous tense.

When they have finished, check the answers with the whole class. If necessary, review the
use of future perfect and future continuous.

Answer Key

1. will be living
2. will have made
3. will be waking up
4. will have travelled
5. will be studying
6. will have got married
7. will be sleeping
8. will have made
9. will be spending
10. will have played
11. will be watching
12. will be working
13. will have bought
14. will have lived

Now ask each student to write the name of a classmate at the beginning of each statement
that they believe the statement would be true for, e.g. Paul will be living in a different place a
year from now.

The students should make predictions without consulting their classmates.

The students then mingle and ask and answer questions to find out if their sentences are
true or are likely to be true, e.g. Paul, do you think you'll be living in a different place a year
from now?

When they have finished, students share what they found out with the class.

The winner is the student who guessed the most correct sentences.
