MOHAMMAD HATTA

Mohammad Hatta or we usually called Bung Hatta. He was born in Bukittinggi, West
Sumatera, Indonesia. In August 12, 1902. He is the first vice president in indonesia which was
formally elected on 18 august,1945. Mohammad Hatta is a son of Mohammad Djamil and Siti
Soleha, his wife name is Rahmi, they are blessed with three doughters. His first dougther name is
Meutia Hatta, his second doughter is Gumala Hatta, and the third doughter is Halida Hatta.

Mohammad hatta received his frist education at Ford de Kock Malay Elemantary School,
then he moved to Europeesche Lagere School (ELS) in Padang From 1913 to 1916. He countinued to
Meer Uirgebreid Lagere School (MULO), im Padang until 1919. Then he countinued to Dutch
Secondary school HBS or Hogere burgerschool in Batavia. After graduated he proceed to college at
Rotterdam School of Commerce (currently Erasmus University Rotterdam) in Rotterdam, the
Netherland.

Mohammad Hatta is the leader of the Indonesian Independence Movement. He also served
as Prime Minister in 1948-1950. he was also active in the Indonesian National Party (1927-1931), and
the Indische Vereeniging (or Indies Association).in 1949 a round table conference was held in the
Hague which ended the Dutch military aggression. The negotiations took place on August 23-
November 2, 1949 and Mohammad Hatta was appointed as the head of the Indonesian delegation.

While serving as prime minister he helped guide the new state through an important
transition period from federal to unitary state. Moh Hatta was appointed as vice-president on 18
August 1945 and in 1956 he resigned as vice-president, he admitted he was angry at Sukarno who
was too meddling in cabinet affairs and the other reason was Soekarno's closeness to the
communist party. he also consistently criticized Sukarno's anti-western and anti-Malaysia foreign
policy.

In 1934 was captured by the Ducth because of his political activities and then exiled to
Boven Digul in West New Guinea. He was exiled to the island of Banda Naira in 1935 until Japanese
world war II, on August 16, 1945 hatta and Soekarno were taken to Rengasdengklok, Karawang to be
forced to declare independance. Soekarno was angry because of a book written by Mohammad
Hatta critizing Soekarno guided democracy as another from of dictatorship. Hatta died on March 14,
1980 and his cemetery in TPU Tanah Kusir, Jakarta. He was named a hero of the proclamator in 1986
by the Soeharto goverment.
